The Harrison County Genealogical Society held their regular monthly meeting this date with 15 persons in attendance. There would have been 16 but the treasurer had another function that she needed to attend. We awarded one of the scholarships today and the other recipient could not attend due to illness. We presented Sarah Wheeler with a $500.00 scholarship and she said she would be going to Duquesne this fall. She and her mother Valerie Wheeler were in attendance. We also had Bob Blankenship from Ohio along with new members John & Nancy Rohrer. David has talked to Country Roads and they have penciled us in for a trip to Washington, DC on the 5th of October. If you are interested in going, please let us know. We are not sure of the cost at this time but the cost of taking the bus has gone up, so it will probably be slightly higher this year. David also had some new books that are being published by Dianne Zimmerman: As American as Apple Pie, on the Harbert/Herbert families. A Yankee Volunteer in the Civil War. Pvt. Joseph R. Thompson Andrew Smith & James Smith Families: Aaron Smith line Captain James Davies Ancestors of Boggess's of Harrison County. We discussed our annual picnic which will be after the next meeting on August 7th. We will hold the meeting at 10:00 and following that we will car pool to Diana Johnson's house. It will be held outside and if you must bring something, she said, to bring a dessert. We also set the date for the September meeting to the 11th due to the 4th being the Labor Day weekend. Paul, This is just a one day trip and no one stays overnight. We leave from behind the Clarksburg Library at 5:00 a.m. Stop over in Maryland for breakfast and get in DC about 10:00 a.m. Stops are made at the DAR, Archives and the Library of Congress. You are free to do and go whatever/wherever you want until 5:00 P.M. when the bus leaves at the Archives. It is each person's responsibility to be at the Archives at 5:00. Stop for supper/dinner on the way home and get back into Clarksburg about 1:00 A.M. The last two times the trip has been taken they did keep the bus for some to do sight seeing. Hope this has been an answer to your question.
