Thanks for your input, Julie. Before (here in Cleveland), going TO the library was the only way of accessing Sanborn - but now - I can go to their site online by entering my library card ID - but only get OHIO maps. Just curious as to what Clarksburg library card carrying members can access.. my Clarksburg/Harrison County library ID card has expired. But I do think there is one for Clarksburg according to this site, which apparently SELLS them. http://oldusmaps.com/index.htm ________________________________ From: Julie & Frank George <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wed, June 9, 2010 6:39:13 PM Subject: Re: [HCGS] Clarksburg map 1898 online I too received an error message so I used the Library of Congress URL http://lcweb2.loc.gov and then followed the links to Maps, Cities and Towns, and searched for Clarksburg West Virginia--and up it popped!! Fascinating. I was just looking at the Sanborn Maps on ProQuest yesterday so it was really interesting to look at Fowler's perspective. And Sharon, the only online access I know of to all of the Sanborn maps currently is through ProQuest, which is a subscription service of libraries, etc. If anyone knows of another source, I would love to hear about it. You can order both current and historic Sanborn maps--see Sanborn's website. Fowler - the Library of Congress has it online. You can zoom in on any part of the map. First, on the small "Navigation Map" in the upper left, click your mouse on the section you want to see. Then beneath the larger map on the right - click on how much you want the map enlarged. http://lcweb2.loc.gov/cgi-bin/map_item.pl Don't forget to click on the pictures that frame Clarksburg. Is there a way to access Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps for Clarksburg from out of state? I only seem to be able to access Ohio locations through my public library system. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
