    1. [HCGS] Property mapping software
    2. Dave Kuhl
    3. Property mapping software   If you have an old deed which describes the property lines with compass headings and distances in rods or chains, etc. the software identified below may be helpful.  This is not an endorsement.  I have not tried it.   The software identification was passed on to us by HCGS member Sharon Sprouse Bramhall and it was identified to her by a cousin who works in the surveying field.  Here is Sharon’s note:   OK - I just heard from my cousin and her husband the surveyor.  (She is his helper on many occasions).   Here's what she said:    "As for the plat software.... The only ones Gary is familiar with are for surveyors or engineers and are complicated.  I found one online called DeedPro that says it is for non-surveyors and is easy to use.   deedprosoftware.com  Hope this is helpful."   I figure I'll let you check it out - and you can tell me what you think since you are the brainy one.  - Sharon ------------ http://www.deedprosoftware.com/ ------------ Some of our members are in real estate or law.  What do you use for drawing property plats? ------------- If you check this out and find it to be useful or not, let us know what you find.  If you find other information such as websites which could benefit your fellow genealogists, share your findings.  One of the reasons that we join a society is to share our collective knowledge which makes us all more effective. Hope you all have a very beautiful, pleasing Thanksgiving and don't eat to much. I am a little late but have had a busy week. Just a little note.....July 29, 2012 the temperature was 101.5 degrees here in Bridgeport and we did not have power for a total of 8 days. Tonight is the coldest temperature of 2012. It is 12:35 AM and the temperature is 27.9 degrees. Will probably be a little colder by morning, so make sure you have the petunias in so they won't freeze. All the best, Dick Web Master http://www.wvhcgs.com

One  of my clasmates from high school in Clarksburg lives in New Jersey and had flooding from Hurricane Sandy.  Her name coincidemtally is Sandy.  She is getting lots of help from family. Has anyone heard from any HCGS folks who had any serious problesm with Sandy? It was good to have Patricia Dennison in attendance today. We are missing several of our regular members and we hope that it is not due to illness. David had gone book shopping and bought the following books: Monongah Disaster by Davitt McAteer He bought a new book to replace our old one on the History of Randolph County, by Hu Maxwell Don't buy another vote, I won't pay for another landslide by Dr. Allan Loughry II Moth Man by Jeff Wamsley Historical Atlas of West Virginia by Frank S. Riddel Bemis & Glady of WV by Steve Bodkins The Christmas dinner will be on Saturday, December 15th at 2:00 P.M. at the Parkette Restaurant. It will be a gift exchange as before. Something that can be used by male or female. Antero will copy our obits and will bring their own scanner to do it with and will compensate us for copying them. They will be doing it themselves. West Virginia History Day will be on the 21st of February 2013 and we nominated Dick Wilt, our webmaster, as the hero from the HCGS. He does a lot for our group. It is becoming dues time once again as our dues runs from January 1st through December 31st. We would appreciate it if you would mark your application whether you want a membership card or not. Of course the lifetime members already have one so they do not need to respond. Steve Maxwell from the Sons of the American Revolution came to the meeting and wanted to know if we would be interested in going in with them and others to hold a genealogy seminar probably in April or May. We voted to participate and it will probably be held at the Waldomore. Of course no plans were made only a suggestion where it might be held. Our next meeting will be on Saturday, December 1st. 3. Ruby I went to this web with a hope they are doing a better job than when I had my last contact with them. When Anderson was in charge, I made a lot of my great grandfather's items as a donation. Never did get any info about if they junked them or what they did with them. I have always felt I should have waited. Ethel--I am still not impressed with them and wish they were a part of our group. ________________________________ From: Ruby Casto <recasto47@frontier.com> To: hcgs@rootsweb.com Sent: Tue, November 6, 2012 12:21:22 PM Subject: [HCGS] HARRISON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY Here is the webpage for the Harrison County Historical Society. 3. Good for you & your hubby, Jean! West Virginians sure are a determined bunch!    We had a similar experience last year after Jim was discharged from the hospital following a major kidney operation. I didn't want him to risk bleeding, but he insisted on going with me.  To our surprise, two poll workers (one came as a witness) actually came to our car with THE registration book, had him sign it, then gave him a ballot to mark. They asked me to follow them back inside to watch that the ballot was submitted properly.  I had to take pictures - that was a first!  It felt like something that might happen back in the good ol' days.  I was very proud of our poll workers.   Today, it only took us 10 min. to vote at 9:00 AM.
