    3. WVU football   WVU plays Syracuse in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl game in New York City at 3:15 ET.  The game is being broadcast on ESPN 2 which is channel 206 on my Direct TV service.   This will be our last chance to see arguably the best Mountaineer team ever.  They certainly set a lot of records in passing and rushing which will be hard to beat.  If it had not been for some unfortunate injuries at bad times in the season which sidelined some of the stars, they might have been playing in the national championship game instead of a minor bowl that no one has ever heard of.   Dave Kuhl 210 Glen Eagles Drive Ocean Springs, MS 39564-9041 e-mail: dbkuhl@bellsouth.net

    3. Thanks for the link.  I was working up a program on DNA for my local gen society for Jan 3 and this comes in handy.    There are many great links on the Internet.  Just Google terms such as Genome, gene, base pair, DNA, RNA, etc.    There was a study out that from 1% to 4% of our DNA is from Neanderthal.  There were only a few specimens, so it is statistically weak.  For many years, it was assumed that we had no DNA from Neanderthal.   Over 90% of our DNA is the same as Chimpanzees.  I don’t know if that 4% Neanderthal is of the total or of the less than 10% which was thought to be uniquely human.  That makes a big difference.   When you considered that just going back 5 generations, you have 32 ancestors.  If one of those was a full blooded Neanderthal, you could have 3.125% Neanderthal genes even if the other 31 had zero Neanderthal genes.  It is a lot to wrap your mind around.    This Welsh DNA study really brings to life the potential for adding to our historical knowledge by analyzing DNA.    There was another story about a body found buried in a peat bog in England which was about 2000 years old and very well preserved.  They tested local kids in schools but none were related.  Then they tested a teacher who was from another part of England and he was related.  England was conquered and the population altered many times in the last 2000 years.    Don’t forget the WVU game today.    Dave Kuhl 210 Glen Eagles Drive Ocean Springs, MS 39564-9041 e-mail: dbkuhl@bellsouth.net ________________________________ From: Sharon Bramhall <sharon.bramhall@yahoo.com> To: "hcgs@rootsweb.com" <hcgs@rootsweb.com> Sent: Fri, December 28, 2012 3:45:22 PM Subject: [HCGS] Welsh people could be most ancient in UK, DNA suggests Here is a link to several BBC News reports on DNA studies going on in Wales, suggesting that the Welsh could be the most ancient in the British Isles (due to their land-locked location - mountain barriers).   http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-18489735   Be sure to also see the related article links at the bottom of the page!  One is a short radio program (audio only)   Sharon ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to HCGS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

I saw the picture of John Spencer Martin's stone on findagrave. I am researching Daniel & Nancy Bland Martin. I went to Harrison Co hoping to find the Martin Cemetery. I found the Jett & Odell & the PineBluff but not the Martin. The roads weren't marked too well & not being familiar with the area I didn't want to risk my car unless I knew I was in the right place. I've looked for readings for the cemetery but haven't found any. Fairmont has the whole county except the area I'm interested in. Do you know how to get there? Do you know who all is buried there? 3. Sharon & Charlotte and others who are probably related to each other, You should consider taking an autosomal DNA test. Females and males can take it - it's based on 95 percent of all your DNA and covers all your ancestral lines (the Y-DNA & mtDNA tests only cover a small part of your ancestry. It reports Matches based on shared DNA, and a way to contact them - these Matches are probably your cousins from one of your ancestors. You have to share info with them to determine the Common Ancestor - hey, it's what we genealogists do. This test also makes a great gift - it's definitely a family project, new results are reported monthly, it's fun, and it connects you with new cousins. These tests are at lower prices now: www.familytreedna.com: Family Finder test (I prefer this company) www.22andMe.com: test includes medical info, so think about that aspect before ordering. www.ancestry.com: AncestryDNA test, it links your Ancestry Trees. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all, Jim - Sent from my iPhone - FaceTime! Thanks for reminding me of that, Joyce.  I'm sure they wouldn't mind a few questions.  If no one at HCGS has the book,  I'll give that a try...   @ Charlotte - I don't know of any connection with James R. or Thomas ANDERSON - but odds are good, when it comes to our ties!   The first child of my GGGgrandfather Henry Anderson (1811 MD -1900 Marion Co. WV). . .was James - and don't know anything about him - so I've collected a lot of data on possibilities.     @ JoAnn - Nope.   Don't have any WESTs in my tree - but my GGgrandparents, Newton & Katherine (Kerr) Anderson of Marion County were married by a Rev. James West IN Greene Co. PA.   I often wonder why they went THERE to get married - so I'm always looking for the location of Rev. West, since Newton's parents lived in PA for a good while before coming to WV.   From: Joyce Coombs <jac_wv@hotmail.com> To: "hcgs@rootsweb.com" <hcgs@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, December 21, 2012 2:31 PM Subject: Re: [HCGS] Geneva M. 1. [HCGS] CAN SOMEONE HELP THIS LADY
    2. Ruby Casto
    3. Can someone help this lady that wants to know where a Martin Cemetery is. I have Daniel Martin and Nancy Bland Martin but have no idea where they are buried. Send your answer to me. Thanks, Ruby Hi Ruby, Season's Greetings. Any help would be appreciated. Susan
