We are able to give out scholarships due to Ethel and her husband Jack, and we certainly have been appreciative of that. Ruby

    3. Oh no!  What a great loss.  She sure was one of a kind.  I enjoyed the articles she wrote and corresponding with her about our (separate) Davis families for many years.  Someday DNA will answer all the questions about those families for us - but I'm sure she knows the answer NOW.   Rest in peace, Ethel.  You did well.   <Sharon>< From: "cn8ff@aol.com" <cn8ff@aol.com> To: hcgs@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, March 3, 2013 2:47 PM Subject: [HCGS] Ethel Neilsen I received the following email from Joyce Moyer I am sorry to report Ethel Nielsen died March l, 2013  Joyce Moyer bjoy24@aol.com I have no further information but will pass along anything else that I may receive. 1. [HCGS] MEETING
    2. Ruby Casto
    3. The March2, 2013 meeting of the Harrison County Genealogical Society was held today at the Waldomore in Clarksburg, WV. I did not go but Susan House was kind enough to take notes for me and after the meeting she brought the renewal membership applications to me. Thanks Susan. There were 9 members in attendance which was great for the weather we were having this morning. There was no treasurer's report but Dottie did come at the end of the meeting to pick up the obits and other things that she needed. Dick Wilt said that the website is up to date and has been renewed for another three years. We also want to thank Dick for managing the website for us. Nothing was reported from the trip committee. David is going to take the scholarship applications to each of the schools and they will have to be returned by the 15th of April. The scholarship committee consists of David Houchin, Ted Wolfe and Susan House. Diana Johnson, editor, of the newsletter would like suggestions and help with the newsletter content. It takes a lot of material to keep the newsletter going and she wants to make it interesting and with genealogy material. She also needs queries for it and I'm sure we all have brick walls that we need help with. We renewed our payment to the West Virginia Humanities Council of $30.00. If you haven't paid your dues be sure to get them in as the dues run from January 1st through December 31st each year. Dues are $10.00 mailed to HCGS, P O Box 387, Clarksburg, WV 26301. Hopefully I will get to the April meeting, and can get back on schedule once again. Seems like WV has had a long cold winter this year, even though we haven't had an abundance of snow around here, but our members in the mountains have had more than their share. Ruby

    3. Ruby, I sent an e-mail to David earlier, but I didn't get a reponse. I sent in my dues back in December and received my membership card for the year 2013. However, the check has not yet cleared my bank account. The reason I am asking about this is that the checking account it was written on will be closed next week and so the check will no longer be good. Please let me know if I need to write another check or you will be depositing it this weekend. I would take care of this in person but for health reasons I haven't been traveling much in the past year. I hope to see you all soon. 1. [HCGS] MARTIN
    2. Ruby Casto
    3. Wednesday I received a letter from a lady in Baltimore who is looking for pictures of Col. Charles Martin's family. She said her father was James Broaddus Martin, son of Frederick Theodore Martin, grandson of John Van Buren Martin. She said that John Van Buren Martin was a great grandson of Col. Charles Martin. She is putting a photo book of her family and is searching for old pictures. She said Fishers and Abbott's are married names of the daughters of John Van Buren Martin. Since there are several Martin researchers with HCGS I told her I would post a query on the list. If you can be of any help to her you can e-mail her daughter-in-law at Charisse.wernecke@comcast.net. She also says she would be more than happy to share pictures with you of Frederick Martins family. Ruby

    1. [HCGS] UPDATE ON PAATRICIA VIELLENAVE
    2. Ruby Casto
    3. Below is the update on Patricia Viellenave that I received this morning. Ruby Dad and I spent all day at Brooks yesterday going to all of mom's therapy sessions so we could be certified to continue her recovery at home. We are picking mom up about 11ish today and bringing her home. This will be a great Valentines day present for us. Thankfully mom will require very little equipment when she gets home but she will require 24 hour care for a while. I hate asking for help but this is where Dad and I will need help at. When I need to return to work I'll need someone or a couple people just to drop through for a little while during the day. Mom can walk but she needs some assistance to make sure she is steady on her feet and that she can maneuver the house with and without her walker. The walker is just temporary until she can pay attention and walk at the same time, something we take for granted. Mom will be on a couple of medications as well but those will be given in the mornings and nights with meals so I think we'll be good with that. Anyone who wants to come sit with her please let me know when is good for you and we'll put it together. I appreciate all the prayers and well wishes for her, the hard work is about to begin. I can only pray that her memory will snap back in within a few days of being home and back to a routine she is more used to. I will continue to keep you updated.
