Sharon, Thanks for the update on your Mom. So glad she is doing better and our prayers are surely with her and your whole family. We do want to thank the founders of HCGS as I'm sure a lot of people have benefitted from the society through the meetings and of course through all of the publications we have for sale. Also the Harrison County Heritage Book which took many hours of work to make it happen. Ruby
Hi I Am glad everything is going fine with MOM, This kind of news would be fine with me, no matter what the reason. Bright Eyes are important. Love U Jim
Sharon, I am very glad to hear the good report. Continued prayers and thoughts for your mother's speedy recovery Sherry
Hello Everyone, Just want to thank the HCGS and all those individuals who sent cards & letters to our mother, Mary Virginia "Gin" Sprouse, following her accident & subsequent surgeries. I visited with her again this past weekend in Charles Town and saw them all then. The level of pain following this surgery is so much less! This is the way it should have gone the first time. Today she received a good report from the doctor; x-rays of her leg are looking good. Physical therapy progress is slow, but we expect things to move along better since she will be able to put weight on the bad leg now. Her eyes are bright again, and so are ours! Your prayers and concern have been very much appreciated! Thank you all very much! Sharon Sprouse Bramhall (To those new to HCGS and are wondering why the medical report - Mom is one of several founders of HCGS.)
The weather was a balmy 69 degrees around 7:00 A.M. and by 9:00 it was raining and the wind was blowing but still we had 13 in attendance at our meeting this morning. It was good to have some with us that hasn't been there for awhile, such as, Danny Jenkins, June Conrad, Elaine Post, Polly Dennison and Kim Ross. Darrell Waugh, the president, said he has less than 20 signed up for the Richmond trip and has to have at least 25 signed up before he even talks to Country Roads about the trip. If you want to go please let Darrell know as soon as possible at dew38@msn.com The dates are September 17th through the 19th. Jerry Hawkinberry, treasurer, will be ordering two new books, Harrison County marriages 1895-1912 and "A Point in History" the Battle of Point Pleasant. The West Virginia History Day will be held in Charleston, WV on the 28th of February and this year we do not have a WV hero from our organization. There will be a German Festival in Sistersville, WV on the 19th of October and if we can get enough volunteers to work a table we are planning on going. Let us know if you would be willing to attend and work the table to sell our publications. Jerry Hawkinberry, treasurer, also had the annual report for the year 2001. Anyone wanting to do research at the Waldomore, Clarksburg, WV on Monday there will be a volunteer working for the full day. John Nuzum will be working in the A.M. and Darrell Waugh will be working in the P.M. To those who haven't paid their dues and intends to do so, please get them in asap in order to get the March newsletter and to remain on our members only list. Dues are $15.00 and mail them to Harrison County Genealogical Society, P. O. Box 387, Clarksburg, WV 26301. Ruby Casto Membership Chairman HCGS
Ruby, Wish I could be there to attend the meeting--and also enjoy the weather. We had SNOW here in Tucson yesterday and this morning my car doors were frozen shut. Dick had to get out the "old pan of hot water". We couldn't find a snow scraper so he used my kitchen spatula to scrape the ice off the windshield. This came through on another page and I wanted to pass it on. Ethel For anyone interested in Naturalization records, following is a website that does an excellent job of explaining the process, how and where to find records, etc. The article starts out talking about Canada, but continue reading through the article and you will find a lot of useful information. http://rwguide.rootsweb.com/lesson16.htm
The person that could help is dead, and I don't know what happen to all her research. Her name was Lillian Smith and lived in Charleston, WV back in the 60's. I know she had lot of information on that line. Maybe some day you might run across some of her children and they might have the research she did. 'Andy' LYON (1815-1889 Harrison Co., WV) Hi, Yes, I do have names of children (and spouses) of Andrew and Lavina, but am trying to get more information on the descendants of their daughter Eleanor Frances (LYON) SMITH. I still believe that she was named for her Grandmother Eleanor (Unknown) LYON ROGERS, but can't prove who her grandparents are. Eleanor (her grandmother) named her first daughter "Frances", which is another lead in my search. Also, Andrew named a son Christopher RHODAM Lyon, and my Eleanor's next husband was Rhodam E. ROGERS. Rhodam was not a common name in (W)VA. Have you any idea who Andrew E. 'Andy' LYON's parents are?
