    1. Re: [HCGS] Daughter of the Elm on tape
    2. Hi, I loved the post of the "Daughter of the Elm" info. Thank you so very much. I love that story. The copyright for Mr. Hall's book is owned by the Acuri family, that was left to them in the will. They did the last printing of the book in the 50's. It was a bookstore in WV and now it is closed and they work from home. I spoke with them a few years ago and they were hoping to make it into a movie. I am not sure this man who made the tape has legal right to it. The copyright would start from the next owner of it. Sherry

    3. Thanks for the lead, Sharon. I had no trouble accessing or reading the website. What you described happened to one of our webmasters in the Sons of Union Veterans...he had a virus that gave all his stuff a yellow background to everyone but him, covering up the script. Once he was aware of it, he was able to correct it & we could all read it comfortably, again. Now my curiosity is up & I'm going to have to find out what this Elm Gang is all about. I don't understand why I can't find the time to do all the research & reading I want to do while balancing jobs, hobbies & family....I was able to find some stuff on my ROGERS family in Venango Co., PA, last week. Even found the G-G Gfa's grave, monument, etc. Our best to Gin when you talk to her. 3. Sherry & group, I didn't read the messages re the Shinn auction until Sat. afternoon so obviously won't be there. I'm about half sick. I'd love to have anything to do with the Shinns and I also like Don Whitlatch prints. I lived in Parkersburg for 35 years and that's where he's from. If I'd known Friday morning I'd have gone. 2. Diane are you close enough to go? I am interested in the Daughter of the Elm book if printed early, it says third eddition and I don't know when that would be. I also would like to bid on the painting of the Big Elm if it really is the painting and not a copy in pen and ink. I have the pen and ink copy already. I am interested in any Nay/Ashcraft/Fortney pictures or items. I could not find anyone going. Jim tried to help me find someone all day. I would like to spend about $40.00 if it will buy anything. I just don't know what they would go for. Thank you, Sherry

    2. Auction of Shinn memorabilia Randy Hennis - Feb 5, 2002 View | >Viewers</A> | >Reply to this item</A> If anyone is interested, there is an auction this weekend (February 8) in Harrison County of what is purported to be items dating back to Levi Shinn family. Two sisters died and they are the last living members of a family descended from the Shinns. There is a write-up in the Shinnston paper and probably other Harrison County papers. I can't be there but if a good buy comes up on an old key-wind clock I'll wish I were. Just thought you might like to know since a lot of you are interested in the Shinns. Reply: Read what others had to say: Frances Toothman - Feb 6, 2002 >Viewers</A> | >Reply to this item</A> Randy, thanks for the information. I don't usually go to auctions but I might attend this one. Sue Moore - Feb 6, 2002 >Viewers</A> | >Reply to this item</A> Some of the things listed are Daughter of the Elm book (3rd Edition), 1886 Harrison co. Atlas, 1903 History of the Shinn Family and 1850 census return for Harrison co. Other things is a 1930 painting of the Big Elm by a local artist, Nettie Cooper. A collection of Don Whitlatch prints, all of which are framed and many aare numbered. If anyone has ever seen Don Whitlatch prints, they are very, very good and have a good value on them. This is only a few of the things, along with drop leaf tables, blanket chests, mirrored wash stand, Jenny Lind bed and baby cradle, plus lots of other things. 2. Hi Diane, Here is what Ruby sent me and I wil put a little more in for you. I cannot go as to far but I will pass Jim's message to you. Are you able to go? There will be lots of neat things there. This is from Ruby: I read in the paper where they were going to have the Auction and it will be out West Milford at the Community Center. I imagine you would have to be there to bid on it. I first heard Dr. Gordon one of HCGS members talk about it at meeting last Friday then I saw it in the paper and it must have been the Shinnston paper.

    1. [HCGS] Winchester National Cemetery List
    2. While I was in Winchester, someone gave me a 73-page list of those buried in the Winchester National Cemetery. The list gives the soldier's name, date of death, section and grave number. This may be available elsewhere on the net, but if not, I will be happy to do look-ups if you suspect you have an ancestor or two buried here. Just email me at bramhall@earthlink.net with "Winchester National Cemetery" in the subject line, if you will. Please be patient for a reply, I won't forget you! There is much going on here. <Sharon><
