Joyce, Do you have any Upshur Co. Virginia Census' before 1850? I am trying to locate Joshua Smith and his wife Elizabeth. Joshua was 63 in the 1870 Census and 43 in the 1850 Census. I am trying to determine his father and mother. I have been told his father was James Smith from a burial record but I'm not sure and have not seen the record. Thanks in advance for your help. >From: SURRILDAH@aol.com >Reply-To: HCGS-L@rootsweb.com >To: HCGS-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [HCGS] Does anyone have these please >Date: Thu, 2 May 2002 17:15:21 EDT > >Dear Sherry: > What census year and marriage years are you looking for? There is a link to the newspaper, the Clarksburg Exponent Telegram, but I don't think that there are any old newspapers archived where they can be read on the webpage. Here is the link: http://www.cpubco.com/ I believe that there may have been another newspaper in print during the Depression era. Does anyone know what that would be? You might try to see if you can get microfilms of the newspapers on interlibrary loan. Patricia
I've just printed out the article and want to thank you so much for sharing it. My father and family were from Buckhannon...he and 6 brothers and sisters were teens or young adults during the depression, so I'm very interested in these human stories. My grandmother's family is from Harrison Cty so I'm researching both, but from a distance (NH). Do you know if it's possible to access newspaper info on-line and what the newspaper names were (are)? Thank you again, and for any leads you can give me. We received this from one of our lists. Senior Citizens Senior citizens are constantly being criticized for every conceivable deficiency of the modern world, real or imaginary. We know we take responsibility for all we have done and do not blame others. But, upon reflection, we would like to point out that it was NOT the senior citizens who took: The melody out of music, The pride out of appearance, The romance out of love, The commitment out of marriage, The responsibility out of parenthood, The togetherness out of the family, The learning out of education, The service out of patriotism, The religion out of school, The Golden Rule from rulers, The nativity scene out of cities, The civility out of behavior, The refinement out of language, The dedication out of employment, The prudence out of spending, or The ambition out of achievement, And we certainly are NOT the ones who eliminated patience and tolerance from personal relationships and interactions with others! Does anyone under the age of 50 know the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner? Just look at the Seniors with tears in their eyes and pride in their hearts as they stand at attention with their hand over their hearts! Remember....... Inside every older person is a younger person wondering what the heck happened!

I asked the wrong question before. Does anyone hnow anything about Thomas Cunningham, husband of Phoebe Tucker. Did he do anything around the time of the Revolution? It seems strange Phoebe did and he didn't. Thanks, Irene Dunlevy
According to what I understand, the Dahle Family was an early settler and the name was anglicised.
