3. There is a Charles McIntire listed in the DAR Patriot Index - Centennial Edition, as follows: McIntire: McIntyre: McTeer: Charles: b about 1742 d after 10. . 1779 in VA m Elender ..?.. Pvt VA I do not know if this might be who you are looking for, the wife's name is "close enough" that it might be if the other information agrees......If this is your Charles, you should be able to request a copy of his pension file/military record from the US Archives [cost about $25.00] Even if this is not your Charles....you might want to request his pension file, just might get lucky On Sun, 6 Oct 2002 20:39:47 -0400 "IDunlevy" <idunlevy@eohio.net> writes: > Does anyone out there know where I can find proof of the > Revolutionary War Service of Charles McIntire who was married to > widow Ellen Evans Alexander? 3. Irene, have you checked the DAR books at the library, Pierce Register and some are found in the Comstock WV Heritage Books and also another place to look would be the Virginia Revolutionary Publick Claims in the three vols. compiled by Janice Abercrombie & Richard Slatten published 1992. The three volumes include all counties in Virginia. You also can write to the DAR and request their records on him. Good luck Ethel John Hines wrote: > > You can call the National Archives and they will send you a paper to fill > out and they will search for a fee! > > John > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "IDunlevy" <idunlevy@eohio.net> > To: <HCGS-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Sunday, October 06, 2002 8:39 PM > Subject: [HCGS] Charles McIntire > > > Does anyone out there know where I can find proof of the Revolutionary War > Service of Charles McIntire who was married to widow Ellen Evans Alexander? > They had a daughter Sarah who married Uriah Ashcraft. 3. Hi Ruby, We just wanting to check to see if HCGS has anyone wanting to participate in the Genealogy Fair on October 19 at the Sistersville German Festival for the society or as an individual? I am hoping to finalize my floor plan as soon as possible. We have only five tables remaining that we can set up and have 25 in use to date. If anyone is interested in attending as an individual and would like to have a table for their person family history, I need to hear from them . Also it would be possible to an individual wishing to have a table to man the HCGS table also as they could be set up side by side. Just as a reminder, a person does NOT have to be of German descent to participate. 3. It was a beautiful fall morning here in Clarksburg, WV without any rain and we had 15 in attendance at our meeting. Jim Cottrill and his wife had a nice drive down from Pittsburgh, Pa and he brought us all a map of WV with the counties marked with the West Virginia Fall Extravanganza for sight seeing the beautiful fall season we have here in WV. This is on the front page: JUST FOR FUN: They say that West Virginia is Of all the North the southest, Of all the South the farthest north, (It twists your tongue to mouth it) Of all the East the farthest west, The eastest of the westest; But others say that of the best It is the very bestest..... Just for fun, Louise McNeill Pease, WV Poet Laureate Now back to the meeting, it was also good to have for the first time one of our lifetime members, Barbara Harvey and also a visitor John Preston. We have received the 2nd Volume of the Duvall book and the 3rd Volume should be in before to long. Lu McDougal stopped in and gave us a book "The Diary of Walter Fields McWhorter, 1865. Patricia Dennison gave the following report on the workshop which we are planning for the 17th of May 2003. The location is still to be decided and she has heard from a couple of tentative speakers. We would like for this to be a genealogy workshop along with speakers of an ethnic background from this area. The next planning meeting will be held at the Waldomore, Clarksburg, WV. 10:00 A.M. on the 26th of October. More people are needed to help if this workshop is to be a success. Darrell Waugh, president told of a book to be published on Guardian, WV which is in Webster County. He said the Post Office was Guardian but the name of the town was Removal. We will purchase this book. We also had a discussion on the Christmas Dinner. He had contacted Ryan's Restaurant and we can get a room there on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings only. U.S. Steak Buffet does not have a room available anymore. The Parkette Restaurant last year was not big enough. We had 23 in attendance and the room was very small. We all left it up to Darrell to make the decision and so he is to send us an e-mail telling us where the Christmas dinner will be. BEFORE MARCH DARRELL. Jim Cottrill of Pittsburgh, Pa brought in two boxes of magazines and books for the society. I noticed there were Family Tree Maker Magazines, Genealogy newsletters of Pittsburgh and also Time Life Book on the Civil War. Thanks Jim. He also gave some of us CD's. Patricia Dennison has volunteered to put our meetings in the local paper in the Calendar of Events. The meeting was adjourned. Ruby Casto Membership Chairman of HCGS

I am no expert on any of these. The club even has a web page for it's members. Click here: -- Harrison County Genealogy Society WEB Page We have the HCGS-L@rootsweb.com, a very visible means of exchanging information. It's a list you have to sign up for. Easy to send info to everyone who is on list. I will send this info this way today We have HCGS powered by MyFamily.com that will do a lot of nice things for you, if you use them. Let me talk on HCGS@My Family.com. I have been stumbling around on MyFamily.com sites for 3 years or more, never sure what I was doing, getting frustrated because of my lack of understanding what they wanted me to do. I have come to understand a little about it. As a user you cant hurt much but as an administrator you have your hands full. So stumble around and learn to use this concept. Some of its features: REVIEWS: You can write reviews on anything. HISTORY: Not sure what this does yet. NEWS: Nice feature, you can alert people about club happenings or other important things, like when Ruby was in hospital. Address Book: Unique you can put almost anything you want in here even the names you are researching. Calendar : Will publish and send out reminders on Birthdates, Anniversaries, Club Events, etc. File Cabinet: A great storage and retrieval spot for info even sound and video. Family Tree: You can build your own family tree file right on line. PHOTOS: You can add photos and even put them in albums. There are other items not turned on at this time. If I have made any mistakes please correct me. What I have found, seems HCGS@MyFamily.com must have started about NOV 2000. There are atleast 165 members listed in address book. Only about 50 have found and used it in 2 years. I will hopefully get back to this next week. I have to leave now I will be walking my sister down the aisle tomorrow morning to give her away. Probably wont get back to this till Tuesday of next week Oct 1, I plan on going to the meeting on Oct 4. Come and let me take your picture. While the main pupose of the list is genealogy, we didn't feel an occasional joke (especially if it's about genealogy) or a patriotic statement would hurt anyone, since it is so easy to delete anything one doesn't want to read. President Darrell The above was decided by the Society. The below is my personal comments: I certainly am not going to add to my duties the policing of a list. If that makes anyone think I'm not doing my job all you have to do is drop by next March (elections) and you are welcome to take my place. I have wasted more of my time reading complaints than it would have taken me to delete 50 unwanted messages. Just plain Darrell ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darrell: Due to my computer being "hospitalized" for more than three weeks, my response to your final decision is long delayed -- for that I am sorry. I tip my hat to you for your decision.....your diplomacy....and your thoughts about your decision. You have probably earned a respite from your duties when election time arrives, but you have made it hard for anyone to ever want to replace you. This ol' Army fella salutes a Marine!!!
