    1. [HCGS] SOME THINGS WE KEEP
    2. Ethel Swiger
    3. I received this from another list and thought it worth posting here. Happy New Year to everyone. Arden and Ethel I grew up in the forties and fifties with practical parents - a Mother, God love her, who washed aluminum foil after she cooked in it, then reused it. A Father who was happier getting old shoes fixed than buying new ones. Their marriage was good, their dreams focused. Their best friends lived barely a wave away. I can see them now, Dad in trousers, tee shirt and a hat and Mom in a house dress, lawn mower in one hand, dishtowel in the other...... It was the time for fixing things - a curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress. Things we keep. It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that re-fixing, reheating, renewing, I wanted just once to be wasteful. Waste meant affluence. Throwing things away meant there'd always be more. But then my Mother died, and on that clear summer's night, in the warmth of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any 'more'. Sometimes, what we care about most gets all used up and goes away..... ......never to return. So ........ while we have it ....... ....................it's best we love it ........................and care for it .......and fix it when it's broken ........and heal it when it's sick. This is true ................. for marriage ...................................and old cars ....and children with bad report cards ...................and dogs with bad hips ...........................and aging parents ...........................and grandparents. We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it. Some things we keep. Like a best friend that moved away - or - a classmate we grew up with. There are just some things that make life important... ................people we know who are special................ and so, we keep them close!

    1. [HCGS] Freedoms
    2. Irene Dunlevy
    3. FREEDOMS I want you to close your eyes and picture in your mind the soldier at Valley Forge, as he holds his musket in his bloody hands. He stands barefoot in the snow, starved from lack of food, wounded from months of battle and emotionally scarred from the eternity away from his family surrounded by nothing but death and carnage of war. He stands though, with fire in his eyes and victory on his breath. He looks at us now in anger and disgust and tells us this... I gave you a birthright of freedom born in the Constitution and now your children graduate too illiterate to read it. I fought in the snow barefoot to give you the freedom to vote and you stay at home because it rains. I left my family destitute to give you the freedom of speech and you remain silent on critical issues, because it might be bad for business. I orphaned my children to give you a government to serve you and it has stolen democracy from the people. It's the soldier not the reporter who gives you the freedom of the press. It's the soldier not the poet who gives you the freedom of speech. It's the soldier not the campus organizer who allows you to demonstrate. It's the soldier who salutes the flag, serves the flag, whose coffin is draped with the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag!!! "Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Amen." Prayer Wheel: When you receive this, please stop for a moment and say a prayer for our U.S. ground troops in Afghanistan, AND all over this world. There is nothing attached.... This can be very powerful.... Just send this to those people you think would understand it. Do not stop the wheel, please.... Of all the gifts you could give a US Soldier, Prayer is the very best one.....

    1. [HCGS] *Better watch out! - Virus blitz
    2. "BETTER WATCH OUT!" I just wanted to alert you all that some hackers are trying to put downers on the Christmas season. Within the last TWO days, My McAfee virus software caught around 25 emails - all ladened with two different viruses... the Klez and the Exploit.MIME viruses. These have come in the form of "Returned mail" "Mail Delivery Subsystem" "Undeliverable Mail" - so beware! Take your time opening some of those greeting cards. If you are asked to click on anything that says "EULA" in order to view the card - DON'T! This allows the hacker access to your computer. <Sharon><

    2.   I received e-mail from genseekers.com offering me a free 5 day trial so that I could find data that was in response to a message that I posted in 1998 on the Fayette Co., PA message board.   I tried to get the 5 day trial to see what was available but had to give them my credit card number and then I could cancel in 5 days if I was not happy with their service.   Problem is, they do no receive any e-mail at the site they send you to (Genseekers@yahoo.com) and you do not get the login name and password needed to access their website.   I have now found that this is a SCAM website and wanted to warn everyone on each of the lists I am on.   I plan to call VISA tomorrow and tell them that if a charge for $59.95 for a one year membership comes thru, I am NOT going to pay it!   Of course, they now have my number and can use it at their discretion so will have to cancel my account and open a new one.   Big pain!   BEWARE!   Don't be a dumb as I was!

    3. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all and sorry for not being at the Dinner! But the Post Office waits for no-one! It has been pretty busy and really hard to get away for anything! Most of us are working 10 and 12 hour days and can't seem to get anything done around the house! But we are trying to make everyone happy by getting your cards and packages to you on time!
