    1. Re: [HCGS] BOB'S SURGERY
    2. Dear Ruby: I have no clue how I missed this when it first came in, but I want you to know how thrilled Margaret & I are that Bob's surgery is complete. By now I'll bet his hair has even started growing back. Our prayers and thoughts and crossed fingers are all focused on you and Bob! Lee ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In a message dated 2/4/2003 7:50:41 PM Eastern Standard Time, recasto@iolinc.net writes: << Hi Folks, Bob had to be in Morgantown this morning at 5:30 A.M. and our son Bobby stayed the night with us and drove our car as it was pouring down the rain. I have been up since 3:00 A.M. His surgery was scheduled for 7:15 and they took him about 7:30. The hooked up the permanent wires down in the deep part of his brain, and run the wires down the back of his neck and put two stimulators on each of his shoulders just below the shoulder bone. His surgery lasted almost two hours. The Dr said he did very well and when the Dr talked to us he said he could go home this afternoon. It was almost 5:00 P.M. before the DR came to activate the stimulators. He will control them for awhile until he thinks we feel like we know exactly how to do it. One side of his head is bald and the other side has hair. They should have just shaved it all off. The Dr. handed me three books and told me that was my homework to read them and to acquaint myself with what the books are telling me. Thanks for all of your concerns and prayers and hopefully I won't have to be back in Morgantown until next Tuesday. Ruby >>

    3. Thought this was appropriate for the Web Page! FAMILY REUNIONS There comes a time in summer When folks begin to gather. It happens about this time each year At a time we call, "pretty weather." When friends and families mingle They greet you with good cheer. The old folks look a little older They hug you and wipe a tear. Last years babies are now toddling, The youngsters have grown so tall. Some of the old folks are missing, We learned that the Master called. Yet, in all there's still quite a crowd From many states they came. And each and every one of them So proudly wear their name. At first, a talk from a gifted voice; A prayer to say thanks for our blessings, Then starts the rotation around the tables appropriate filled with all the dressings. In a large pot, Chicken and dumplings, Fried chicken, a specialty of Aunt Sue. Homemade pickles, relishes and chow chow, 'Tater salad, baked bread and beef stew. There are tables with sweets overflowing. Too great a number to taste them all. Cakes of every kind and color, Meringue pies, a mile high tall! To most, this is a common thing, That just happens every year. You see the same folks, once again; Hold on to loved ones dear. Look again at the past years photos, At the ones who have now gone home. The matriarchs who could tell us secrets Locked forever in their minds, are gone. As this time of year approaches, Heed this warning and please don't wait To ask family questions of the elders. For soon, you see, it's too late. One hopes this practice continues, And never fades away. Like dinners on the ground and river baptisms Family Reunions are here to stay. Jay Cee~~ - May 10, 2001

    1. [HCGS] BOB IS HOME
    2. RECasto
    3. I have had several inquiries about Bob and I did bring him home yesterday and he has to go back on Tuesday to get everything hooked up. He has one wire already in place for his tremor but not hooked up yet and then he has one wire on the outside of his head and it is hooked up to a 9 volt battery pack which he can turn on from 1/2 to 10. At 1/2 he begins to feel an electric shock. We are not sure just how this works. On Tuesday they will put this wire down through his brain somehow and run wires down the back of his neck and place two pacemaker devices, one of each shoulder and then he will have a remote control to use to activate them for the pain and tremor. No wires will be on the outside. It has been quite an experience for the both of us. This surgery was done at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV by neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Bloomfield. This is a medtronic device and if you want to know more about it go to www.medtronic.com. Jerry Lewis has the same thing only he had his implanted in his back. I heard him say he was without pain the first time in about 35 years. Thanks for all of your concerns and prayers and please keep remembering us because we still have a ways to go. Thanks, Ruby [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus]
