    3. Dear Ruby, I saw your question about Oregon receiving the Newsletter..... As of Sat. April 5, mine had not arrived. If you want to wait until my Monday mail arrives, before you send another please do. I don't get my mail until late afternoon, so I'll have to write you Monday eve. I had a thought over the weekend. Since the post office is probably overwhelmed with mail for the service men, do you suppose it is slowing every thing else down? If so, I'll gladly wait for my newsletter to read. Just a note - I've been following the news about Jessica Lynch. I suppose it's too soon to know for sure the whole story, but right now she is a hero, and at this point I'm proud to be a WV woman! Will get back to you Mon. eve. 1. [HCGS] TIPS from Sherry
    2. 1900 census is especially helpful for learning about immigrant families. In addition to the birthplace of each individual, it asks for the birthplace of the parents. Unfortunately, this information is usually only a country (or U.S. state), but it may indicate a more specific foreign region such as Hesse, Bavaria or Galicia. It also gives the year of immigration, which is so important for finding the ships' passengers' records. In addition, it states whether an individual is an alien AL, naturalized NA or has applied for citizenship PA = first papers, which helps in locating naturalization papers. (The 1920 census also gives the year of naturalization.) Both passenger records and naturalization papers can help you make the leap back to the home country when you are ready to begin looking for ancestors overseas. Consider each day a gift.
