3. Hi John, Don't know if you got my other message, but wanted to be sure to be on your mailing list for a FTM Workshop if and when you all have it. So yes, I am very much interested and maybe will have two other members that are not on line interested also. If you would like, I'll check with them and let you know for sure. Also, of course, it would depend upon the date you would hold the workshop, but anyhow, the interest is here. 3. I would like to Thank everyone that supported Patricia and all the Officers for putting on the last Workshop! It is going to be an experience for all of us to have another Workshop so soon in the year, but there were so many unanswered questions that Dave or I (John) could not answer with the time we had! So Dave asked me to see if we were willing to have another one to clear up some of the questions that were asked! We had a discussion at the meeting in June and decided to go forward if we can get everything worked out and as soon as we get the plans for it we will release the date and time. Dave and I would like to know about how many are interested in attending so we can have an idea of what we will need to run the classes! So please send me a note and hopefully we will know in the next week or so when we will have or where! Oh by the way it will be all day! Time to be set when we find out about where it will be! Thanks for all your support and also to Patricia and the Officers of the HCGS for having the faith in Dave and I to do these Classes! I hope that everyone that was at the last one did get something out of what we were trying to teach and show you all about Family Tree Maker! We hope to see most of you at this one when we get it going! Thanks Again John M. 2. CNET | DOWNLOAD DISPATCH (PC Edition) June 3, 2003 Vol. 8, No. 22 Making mincemeat out of spam I rail against various forms of advertising and electronic solicitation pretty regularly, and I feel compelled to do so again because two-thirds of my e-mail is spam. I used to rely on antispam tools that bounced spam back to the sender, saying my address didn't exist, but most spam I get now comes from fake addresses. Everybody recognizes that spam is a big problem. It wastes our time, reduces our productivity, and uses up bandwidth. Software developers have responded with an assortment of tools to combat spam, which we've collected in our new Spam Filters category. Check it out here: http://cl.com.com/Click?q=86-8fH1QCJH04LeB9mAr6eFl9akU_ZR I'm currently trying out SpamFighter, a utility that works with Microsoft Outlook. For every e-mail you receive, it consults a list of known spam. If it gets a match, it dumps the e-mail into a special spam folder. Users help generate the list of known spam by clicking a Block button for every spam e-mail received. A central server adds that spam to the list if multiple users click Block. So far it works as promised. I assume there will be more information on it in the next newsletter? Which buildings will you be going to in DC? Perhaps I can meet the group there that day, do some research, and put some faces with names. Christine Emond

1. [HCGS] MEETING
2. RECasto
3. What a beautiful drive it must have been for Jim Cottrill to come down from Pittsburg, Pa. No rain and the sun was shining. We always appreciate his visits. There were 13 in attendance at the meeting this morning and there was quite a bit of discussion on the workshop which was held on the 17th of May and what a good job Patricia Dennison did with getting speakers and having an interesting workshop. We all gave her a round of applause. Darrell also read a thank you note that he had received about the workshop. David Houchin, the librarian, welcomes members to come in and look at the book catalogs and give a recommendation for some books to buy. The trip to Washington, DC will be on Tuesday, October 7th and is beginning to fill up rather nicely for this early. There are about 20 pre-registered. Since we do not have family memberships anymore if a member wants to take his/her spouse or children they can go at the same price of the member $25.00. Non members will be $30.00. The bus will hold 47 so there is still room for more. West Virginia Day is the 20th of June and David would like to have someone to volunteer to work that day. John Hines & Dave Heise have volunteered to hold another workshop on the how to's of using Family Tree Maker. Patricia Dennison is going to see about getting the Caperton Center again. It would be on a Saturday and if you think you might be interested please let John know at jhines@ma.rr.com. No date has been set yet but we should know by the next meeting. Speaking of the next meeting due to meeting day being the 4th of July the meeting will not be held until the next Friday, July 11th. Don't forget to mark your calendar for the annual picnic which will be held at Lake Floyd on Tuesday, August 12th at 5:30 P.M. Many thanks to Jerry & Bill for getting this very nice place to hold our picnic. Roslyn Queen Alonso, past director of the Italian Heritage Festival, said she would try to get us a table during the Festival to sell our Harrison County Heritage books if anyone is willing to volunteer to work the table. This is Labor Day weekend and we still have several books that we need to sell. Let us know if you think you would be available to work a couple of hours or so. We also have the 1930 Elk $5.00 and Tenmile $9.00 District Census books for sale. Want to wish everyone a nice weekend.
