There were some Questions about making a GEDCOM File of just one Family Line: Answer I hope: Working with GEDCOM FILES Sharing Part of a Family File Tip To determine the individual to select, first you need to determine the line you want to share. Find the child of that line in the Index of Individuals. 1. Press the F2 key. The Index of Individuals dialog box will open. 2. Click on the appropriate individual. He or She will be selected. 3. Click on OK. The Index of Individuals dialog box will close. 4. Click on the Parents of tab for the spouse of the selected individual. The Family Page will display the new family. NOTE You must remove the spouse from any parent so that you get only the lineage that you want. If you do not unlink the spouse from his or her parents you in effect get the entire database when you create the GEDCOM file. 5. Click on the spouse as a child. The child will be highlighted. 6. Click on People. The People menu will appear. 7. Move the mouse pointer to Fix Relationship Mistakes. The Fix Relationship Mistakes menu will appear. 8. Click on Detach Child. The child will be detached from his or her parents. NOTE If you have your FTM Book refer to Chapter 12, "Fixing Relationships and Duplicates." In this case, you are temporarily detaching the child. You do not want to detach siblings. 9. Use the index of Individuals to relocate the individual selected in step 2. 10. Click on the All-in-One Tree button on the tool bar. The All-in-One Tree will open. 11. Click on the Options button on the formatting tool bar along the right side of the screen. The Options for All-in-One Tree dialog box will open. NOTE While this example is using the All-in-One Tree to isolate the desired individuals, you also can create a list of individuals using the Custom Report. For detailed information on searching for individuals to include in the Custom Report, See Chapter 22, "Working with the Custom Report." 12. Click on the Show unconnected step-family tree check box. The option will be selected. 13. Click on OK. The Option for All-in-One Tree dialog box will close. 14. Click on File. The File menu will appear. 15. Click on Copy/Export Individuals in Tree. The Copy/Export Individuals in All-in-One Tree dialog box will open. NOTE At this point, you can select the GEDCOM option from the Save as type drop-down menu and name the file, as you did earlier in the "Sharing Your Coplete Family File" section. I hope that this will help till we find out when we will have the class! I just got back from Vacation and I have many a E-mail to get too! So let me know if this helps! John
Hey everybody, This year marks the 50th anniversary of the MINES family reunion. Attendees have mostly been descendants of Lewis and Carrie Titchenal Mines, who moved from Clarksburg WV to Warren OH in 1903. But anyone related in any way would surely be welcome. It would be great if we could make it a big blast by having as many relatives as possible there (usually we get 30-40 people). My brother is in charge this year, and he needs snail mail addresses to send the invitations to. You can e-mail me with your address, since Martin has filters on his e-mail to keep out unwanted stuff. Anyway, the reunion date is July 19, and it will be in Warren, Ohio. We really hope you can come. Chris Mines Morgan cmmines@yahoo.com --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! DSL - Now only $29.95 per month!

EXCELLENT INFORMATION! Thanks so very much, Lee and Bill - this is exactly what I was looking for! I am going to print these out and tuck them away in my Harrison County file. I really appreciate your time and help. Now that you mention it, Bill, I DO have a 7th- cousin-6-times-removed in Richmond.... hmmmmmmmm Sharon Sprouse Bramhall
Same source: RE: WV - "State censuses were taken in some counties between 1782 & 1785, and have been published along with tax records." Those censuses MUST have been for VA. Under VA, we find: 1. "Between 1750 & 1784, land grants made to the Ohio Company encouraged exploration beyond the Alleghenies. The new area, SE of the Ohio R., was organized by VA in 1775 as the District of West Augusta, though much was ceded to PA in 1779." 2. "VA entered the Union in 1788 (seceded 1861)." 3. "Until1786, the Anglican church was the state church of VA. (Per) English law, the church kept parish registers of vital statistics...most are no longer in existence. Those that do ...have been photocopied & are in the VA State Library, 11th Street at Capitol Square, Richmond...23219. Most have also been transcribed & published." 4. "In 1704, all VA landowners, except those in Lancaster, Northumberland, Westmoreland, Richmond & Stafford Cos had to pay a Quit Rent to the king for every 50 acres. A...list was made in 1704...." 5." The Archives Division of the VA State Library has copies of all existing VA birth & death records prior to 1896.... Beginning in 1660, a couple could marry by posting a bond with civilauthorities or publishing banns at church. Reporting was required after 1780, but was sometimes done before that." 6. "Lists of residents are available for some colonial years. Lists for 1624 & 1779 have been published." Looks like you need a week's vacation to Richmond! Good hunting! Depending on just HOW early: Spotsylvania County was formed in 1721; Orange County was formed from part of Spotsylvania in 1734; Augusta County was formed from part of Orange in 1745; Monongalia was formed in 1776 from Augusta....then Harrison in 1784> Lee Roland Jenkins
Hi Folks, I went to MCM and picked up the newsletter about 4:30 yesterday evening and worked on it several hours last night and finished this morning. I took it to the Post Office bulk mailing a little before 3:00 this afternoon and our member John Hines is still on vacation and I told Marvin, the head fellow, about what trouble we had with it the last time and he said he would make sure it went out on his shift tonight. Let me know if you get your newsletter but don't post it to the list. recasto@iolinc.net The local ones should have no problem as they are in separate mailing bags. Thanks, Ruby
Thanks for checking that resource, Bill.. but do you have any idea where to look before 1784 - early 1700s? Think it's Richmond? (Mom's doing fine at her home, by the way. For the record - does anyone have a rundown on which counties to research for Harrison County's early years (land, marriage, death)? For example, during the early 1700s when we were "Augusta County" - were the records kept in Richmond, Morgantown, Wheeling, or in Clarksburg? I'm sure this must be in "Handybook for Genealogists" - but I don't have a copy on hand. Thanks! Sharon Bramhall
Does anyone remember exactly when the Point Comfort School was torn down? Fred Layman said the school (West Pike Street, Clarksburg) closed in 1964. A friend is seeking the newspaper article written about the school (and its area history) when it was torn down. She believes her ancestor, Henry Harper and his wife, Sarah (Matthews) Harper ran an inn in this area. The article is supposed to say something about Sarah running a seamstress business at the inn. The HC 1840 census supposedly names Henry Harper's occupation as an "inn keeper". When you think about it, "Point Comfort" does sound like a likely name for a place of rest (inn)! Does anyone know more about Point Comfort? I am embarrassed to say I rode right past Point Comfort School on the school bus for years and never knew the name of it. <Sharon><

John - I would be willing to pay for it -- maybe you could put it in writing and have the HCGS sell it to folks like me who are out of town. Kathryn
KimCarLee; As soon as I get back from Vacation, Dave and I will try and get something worked up on what we will be covering and hope to do more! Of course this is also depending on if we get to have it at the College or the Waldomore!
