Just a hint, it would be a good idea if you have living people on your chart to leave off any information about them, just have their first and last name, no birthdates or the location of where they live, because this is a publication that the society will selling, so others will be buying it, we hope. Publication sales are down since the internet has so much information available for people to do their research. So, if anyone has ideas about publications the society can create that's not out there, please post those ideas. Thanks, Diana
I don't know about copyrights - but I know I always appreciate the early newspaper articles. ________________________________ From: Diana Johnson <[email protected]> To: Harrison Co Gen Soc <[email protected]> Sent: Sat, October 9, 2010 9:31:01 AM Subject: [HCGS] Pedigree charts Just a hint, it would be a good idea if you have living people on your chart to leave off any information about them, just have their first and last name, no birthdates or the location of where they live, because this is a publication that the society will selling, so others will be buying it, we hope. Diana, I have a quick question for you. The charts I have assume that you begin with the male line, but it is only through my mother's line that I have WV ancestors. I can't imagine that this would be a problem, but just thought I would check before completing the form. Dick, I have been told that I had a Gr. Uncle that died in the Andersonville Prison, but can find no record of it. He would have been John Mathis/Mathews/Matthews. I have to look up that surname under all three spellings. I ordered Civil War records for one John Mathews but it was not him and I can't find anything on him at all. Thanks for the story. Ruby
The US Park Service Civil War Soldiers and sailors site is at: http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ This is an excellent site for researching Civil War listing. The Harrison County Genealogical Web Site has been updated with Ruby's notes for the October 2, 2010 meeting. Ruby mentioned and I want to thank her for her prayers for my wife. My wife just happened to chose the week end that UHC Clarksburg is moving to the new UHC. It will all happen tomorrow and we won't have any further information until Monday. Dick Wilt Web Master http://www.wvhcgs.com
The Harrison County Genealogical Society held their regular monthly meeting this date with 11 persons in attendance. We want to keep our web master and his wife in our thoughts and prayers as Dick had to take her to the hospital last night and they admitted her. I have not heard anymore from Dick today but he was not at the meeting. David discussed the trip to Washington, DC this coming Tuesday the 5th and he said he has 27 persons going and five of them are from Ohio and three from Morgantown. Since most of them are members of the DAR they will be dropped off and picked up at the DAR this time. The other stop will be at the Archives and a pickup at the Archives. David also wants to open the Waldomore on Monday since it will be closed on Tuesday. Instead of buying a book, he bought a CD on "British Emigrants in Bondage" 1614-1788 by Peter Wilson Coldham. Joann Sandy asked if we had the cemeteries in the area mapped, which we do not have, but we do have the districts all read except Clay and Eagle. She would like to update the Stonewall Cemetery in the Spring. It was read in 1989 so there is a 21 year span that can be added. The Stonewall Cemetery is in Clark District. We still have all of our publications for sale but the last couple of months sales have dropped off some. If you haven't gotten your pedigree chart to Diana please do so as soon as possible as they need to be turned in by the end of December. She wants to have that publication for sale by April. Be sure to mark your calendars for our annual Christmas dinner. It will be on Saturday, December 11th and 1:00 P.M. at the Parkette Restaurant. It will be a gift exchange as before by bringing a small gift that can be used either by male or female. Don't forget if you have a query you can post it on our members only list here and also send it into Diana for the newsletter as all of our members are not on this list. [email protected] The next meeting will be Saturday, November 6th at 10:00 A.M. Ruby
The Harrison County Genealogical Web Site has been updated for Oct 1, 2010. See you all at the meeting tomorrow. Web Master http://www.wvhcgs.com Dick Wilt
Ruby, Sorry, we won't be able to attend the meeting. We had planned to be in Fairmont today, but will be delayed until Sunday. Maybe we can come in the spring. I've been gone from the Clarksburg area for a long time and hope someone can provide suggestions to help out a friend of my son's. The friend has accepted a new position in Jane Lew and he and his family (wife and two children) wish to find housing in a good school district in the general Clarksburg area. They need someone who is knowledgeable about the area, including rental properties, to give them some guidance.
