Hays was born about 1854 in Ohio, and died in East Lynn, Illinois. He had two children: son, Jesse Hays, and daughter, Irma Hays. The 1860 and 1870 censuses show Rufus living in the Newton Township, Muskingum County, Ohio, household of Joseph Hays. Andrew Jackson Hays was born Mar 1856 in Muskingum County, Ohio. He married (1) Elizabeth UNKNOWN before 1880 in Muskingum County, Ohio. He married (2) Louisa B. UNKNOWN. He has one son, Alonzo Dean Hays (b. 1884). The 1860 and 1870 censuses show Andrew living in the Newton Township, Muskingum County, Ohio, household of Joseph Hays. The 1880 census shows Jackson as head a household in Newton Township, Muskingum County, Ohio, in which Elizabeth is the only other person in the household. John W. Hays was born about 1858 in Ohio. The 1860 and 1870 censuses show John living in the Newton Township, Muskingum County, Ohio, household of Joseph Hays. William H. Hays was born Oct 1863 in Ohio, and died in Roseville, Muskingum County, Ohio. He had a daughter, Florence A. Hays.
