His father was Jonathon Hays and His mother was Mary Henderson. He married Martha B. Davis on 4 March 1807. Census records indicate along with court records that Samuel Ellet Hays was born in Fredrick County, Maryland. He died in 1820. Samuel E. Hays was a private in the 14th Regiment, Roane County.Between May of 1809 and April of 1810, ha and John Davis were excused from Militia duty due to inabilities of the body.On Jan 10, 1814, he served as a private in Captain Allen S. Bacon';s Company East of Tenn. Drafted Militia in the Battalion commanded by Major Thomas C. Clark for a term of 6 months, 14 days. He received $51.61 for his tour of duty. Returning from the war he appointed Gideon Morgan as his power of Attorney to receive the monies due to him for his war service. This document is signed by Hays and marked with a seal attesting it is his valid signature. I have more about hime. Not sure what background you want. Martha B. Her mother is said to have been full blooded Indian of the same tribe as Pocahontas. Samuel E. Hays and Martha B. Davis had the following children.
