In 1840, they moved from Richfield, Monroe Twp., Juniata Co., PA to Fox Twp., Elk Co., PA, where Edward died a year later in 1841. He was believed to have been a teacher, and I believe there is a Mennonite connection somewhere. In 1932, Edward Dixon Hayes, a member of the U.S. Congress from Missouri and a descendent of Edward and Catherine Hays, wrote a family tree for his two children. He did research at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. and in his family tree, he claims that Edward Hays, Jr was born February 17, 1797, and that his parents were Edward Hays, Sr. and Sally Ann Patterson, and that he was reared in Greenwood Twp., Juniata Co., PA. Edward Hays, Sr. allegedly died shortly after Edward Hays, Jr's birth in 1797, and Anna Patterson was supposed to have married a man by the name of Henry Heiser and had four more children by him. I can confirm that an Anna Patterson, who was a daughter of Robert and Jane Patterson of Greenwood Twp., Juniata Co., PA married a Henry Heiser and had four children. However, I CANNOT confirm that this particular Anna Patterson Heiser was first married to Edward Hays, Sr and had a son Edward Hays, Jr born in 1797. I have no idea what source documents that Edward Dixon Hayes found at the Library of Congress that lead him to this conclusion. Any help? Ideas? Information?
