At this time the most likely date is June 1839. His father was most likely Samuel Hays (b. 1801 in Greene Co. Tennessee, d. 6 Mar 1914 in Rockwall Co, Texas). Robert’s mother was probably Elizabeth K Gray. Robert G Hays married Mary Ann Hartman 28 Nov 1872 in Kaufman Co. Texas. Their children were Bradford Hays (b 15 Oct 1873), Samuel Hays (b. 22 Feb 1875), Jane Hays (b. 1 Jun 1876) and Mary Hays (b 1878). To the best of my knowledge all the children were born in Rockwall County Texas. I believe Robert G Hays siblings were Catherine Clemons Hays (b 1833), Mary Ann Hays (b. 1835), and Elizabeth Hays (b. 1837). The family is included in the 1850 Census in Greene Co. Tennessee. In the 1860 Greene Co Tennessee census Samuel, wife Elizabeth, and son Robert are shown. Elizabeth K Gray (Samuel Hays wife) died Nov 1867 and left a will which did not mention her husband Samuel but mention her daughters Catharine M Pickering, and Mary Ann Brumley and son R.C.G. Hays. I have been able to find any record of Samuel Hays death but assume he died before 1867 when Elizabeth died. Does this tie into any of your ancestors or known Hays families that moved from Greene Co. Tennessee to Rockwall (or Kaufman) County Texas.
