James Valentine (Volney) HAYS, born 1843 (don't know where for sure) was my gr'grandfather. He died in 1881 at age 38. Getting info on his parents and siblings has been a very tough exercise for me...need some help here!!! He m. Melvina FORTUNE, of Spencer Co, IN in1875. They had my gr'father Jesse B. HAYES in Carmi, ILL in 1880, but then moved back to, or were still, living in Spencer Co, IN. I believe they were visiting other relatives in Carmi when Jesse was born. Jesse m. Gola Edith (Goldie) BAKER in Gillett, ARK, then returned to Spencer Co, IN where my dad Huey Hanson HAYES was born in 1907. Your connections of the HAYS lines from Indiana and Arkansas is very coincidental to my own situation. Can you give me some more info from your data. Somewhere along the time when my Jesse was born (1880), someone in the family added the E to HAYS. This was a common occurrence. However, there are a lot of HAYS' still in the Carmi, ILL area. I am working with a potential cousin there trying to make connections. Please get back to me, if you will. Hope you have some good info. Craig HAYES
