Dutton, NY: 1952:."...John Coffee Hays was born on January 28, 1817 near Little Cedar Lick, TN, the second child of Harmon A. Hays and Elizabeth Cage. Jack's g grandfather, John Hays of Ireland, arrived in the colonies in 1740. His grandfather, Robert, was b. to Martha Thompson Hays, a Virginian, the second wife of his g grandfather. Robert grew up in the Rock Bridge section of VA. He became a lieutenant in the NC Infantry during the Revolution... In 1785 he settled in Little Cedar Lick, Wilson Co., TN and m. Jane Donelson. Colonel Robert erected Fort Haysboro, later called Haysboro. Here in the pioneer home Harmon A.
