I have a GGGrandfather John HAYS (b. 1795), married Rebecca MILLER (b. 1787) in 1818 in Ohio. I only know the name of their second son (George HAYS), but don't know how many other siblings there may have been. Rebecca's father, James MILLER, was a Captain in the Revolutionary War (I have DAR papers on him). Do you think this could be your John & Rebecca? Or just an interesting coincidence? If we have a match, I have more info on Rebecca'a ancesters and their decendents. (Apologies for double posting of this; first time it went in "new" not as a reply) -- Joe Laur

They lived there until sometime in the 1840s, when the family moved to Shelby Co., TN. John died either shortly before the move or shortly after the move. Their children were as follows: William W. Craig Hays (b. ca 1829), Henry M. Hays (b. 1831), Esther Hays (b. 1834), Mary Margaret "Mollie" Hays (b. ca 1837), Elvira Jane "Jenny" Hays (b. 1839), Julia Elizabeth Hays (b. ca 1841), and John Bowen Hays (b. 1844). I am looking for the names of the first John's parents and/or siblings. I appreciate any information/help you can give me. (Possibly the name of the first John's father is Henry.)

Ouachita County's history talks about this Henry Hays as coming with John & William Tate in 1829 on keel boats from TN and settling in AR with other Tates. There may also be connections to Osment, Cox and Bryant families. William Hays b 1816 TN and Zachariah Hays b 1826 TN are probably sons of Henry & Agnes, as Agnes age 70 is in the 1860 census living in Behestian Township in William Hays household & Zachariah is nearby.
