Have you checked the Church of Latter Day Saints site? The church has always been interested in genealogical records and they have an extensive library of source materials. One in particular which I have found on their list of materials available for Hays/Hayes/Hayse is a publication from the 1980's in California called "Untangling the Hays Maze in the South". Have not had time to get my hands on it but might be of help to you.

Attention of <cmuckey@sunflower.com> I apparently missed a first message from Gary, then woke up when I saw the message regarding Margaret Jane HAYS who m John SCRABLE in Greene Co MO 15 Sep 1867 by Jonathan P. Moore, JP. It very well could be your Margaret Jane is d/o Enoch Monroe HAYS & Margaret CARNEY. Their daughter Margaret is the only one of their children I have nothing about. If she is their daughter, she would have been born in Crawford Co AR which is where the family lived when she was born. Prior to that, they were in Washington Co AR when James Arthur HAYS was b 16 Dec 1837. They moved to Arkansas from Jefferson Co TN where they are listed in the 1830 census living next door to Margaret's parents, Arthur CARNEY & Mary WHITE. She was born Dec 26 1839 in Arkansas. 1900 Census she states both parents born TN We have no idea of siblings etc. She was married in Greene Co. MO in 1867. In a county close by Lawrence Co.MO there is a Margaret listed as 11 (1850) with Parents Enoch M. Margarett, Henry W 23, Joseph 18, Sophia age 16, james age 12, Margarett11, Susan age 7, John age 6 and Maria age2 James was the first born in AR - the rest in AR. Have you heard of the Enoch M age 42 and wife age 47. Thanks Charlote

Re: George Hays' email to HAYS-L about Jesse Joiner Hays My husband's g-g grandfather, John Bowen Hays (b. ca 1800 supposedly in TN), married Sarah Montgomery Craig in Gibson Co., TN, in 1827. They lived there until the 1840s. JBH died either in Gibson Co. or in Shelby Co., where Sarah and their children were in 1850 and later. A Henry Hays figures into the picture somehow, as JBH was the executor or administrator of Henry's will. Do you have names of Jesse Joiner Hays' father and/or grandfather? Of his siblings? I have a Jesse Joiner Hays, Gibson Co TN B1822 D1901. His Gfather was from NC where the spelling was Hayes.
