Imogene, Thanks so much for your lengthy letter. I appreciate the info and have saved it in a file for further investigation. On the surface, the names don't connect, other than John being born the right year and having a brother Henry. No diabetes ever seen in the descendants of my John Hays family.....guess I'll have to investigate all the John Hays families in TN and narrow it down. Unfortunately, my Hays clans seem to always live on the "frontier", like in Hardin Co, TN (which only became a county with records in 1819) This is where they lived before moving to MO in 1819; this info re John's son Henry' obit; he died in Washington state.) Any other John Hays families in Tennessee around 1783-1819??? Thanks for your help. Carol

I am a decendent of the Hays (Hayes) from Hillsboro Twnshp, Marion County and my Great (3) Grandfather was Jesse Hays. Unfortunatley, not the Hays you are researching. You should find them on the census records. I feel there may be a connection as my Hays tie into the same Moody line as well. My Jesse's daughter, Angeline married the great-grandson of "Old Tap", Robert M. Robbins. Hope this helps.

Imogene, Fascinating! Can you tell me more about this Hays family? Did they live in Tennessee in the late 1700's and early 1800's ? What year did James die? The name James fits the name of one of my John's sons. May I presume you are a descendant of this family? Is there any info on James Hays or Elizabeth Clayton parents in your Bible? A list of all their children might give me more clues. Unfortunately I do not have an exact date, but I tend to favor the birth year 1785 for John Hays. The tombstone in Holt county, MO where he died in 1853, says "about 70 years", but the 1850 MO census puts his age at death closer to 68 years. Tell me more! Carol

Rachael, I would be interested in knowing the names and dates of the children of Nicholas and Alse's Hays' children. Because of destroyed censuses, I have been unable to track further back than my John Hays, born 1783 or 1785 in TN, who with wife Mary/Polly moved from Hardin Co, TN (in 1819) with children Hugh, Henry, Sylvestor, James, Ann, and Washington to Jackson, Cass, Buchanan counties in MO. I am looking for a connection to the other side of the "brick wall', or at least rule out this connection.. I welcome any other possible connections, including one to the family of Wm. E. Flannery/Flanary, Ann's husband. This family moved from Andrew Co , MO to Oregon (1850's), then to Petaluma, Sonoma California (later 1850's - 70's). Am attempting to track descendants of this family as well as the men's families. Thanks, Carol Hays Freitas

Purd Hays did back in the 70's and 80's. There is way to much info in this research paper to write up here. It goes all the way back to a Nicholas Hays born in Ireland and immigrated to the United States in 1746 .. James Hays (my ancester) is one of nine children of Nicholas & Alse Hays,(it says all the children were born in Bedford or Campbell counties, Virginia) I have all the names and dates of the children of Nicholas and Else Hays. James Hays Married Elizabeth (Clayton) and they had 12 children, all mostly born in Green County, Tennessee. From there...many of the children of James and Elizabeth Hays moved on into Arkansas and Indiana. I have names and dates on their kids.. One of their sons is my ancester Enoch Monroe Hays who married Margaret Carny (sp?) and lived in Crawford County, Arkansas. I have the names, dates and places of all Enoch's brothers and sisters..some lived in Arkansas. I can scan the papers I have and send them to you in an email if you would like to see if any of the names I have is any of your people. Thanks for your reply, that was fast :) Rachael

this sounds a wee bit like one of the two major Hays lines found in Saline County, Missouri. Particularly, if there is any chance that the name Walburn could be Lilburn. the name Marion was used in the hays-Owen line that is found buried in saline County. A William Hays, born 1773, was one of the first of two white settlers in that county, arriving in 1815 with the Wilhite family (or Wilhoit). Both men served with Daniel Morgan Boone in the War of 1812, left when the war was over, but failed to muster out and were listed as "deserters". William Hays married Martha Hamilton and had a son named William, though my dates and place of birth don't match. Phil Lindsey > > Subject: > William G.
