Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Xih.2ACEB/14.96.164.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Karen, In the 1860 Census, Pittsburg, Johnson Co., AR, "ARDENIA HAYS," 9 (1850), AR, is living in the midst of an extended family of Hays, Jackson and Hogan people. This family is headed by her possible g mother, DELITHA HAYS," 58 (1801), NC. The World FamilyTree lists Delitha and her unknown Hays/Hayes husband with two children, Elias C., 1829, TN, and Parthenia Jane Hays 1838, MS. (Both have descendants and lived in Crawford Co., AR.) Parthenia and a "Margerat", also b. MS, are also in this household, probably Delitha's daughters. There were likely other children, b. MS, one of whom was possibly Ardena's father. Right below Ardena is a 7 yr. old girl,"Arkansas Hays,"(1852) AR. This may be the sister you mentioned. The other people are Jacksons and Hogans. Your best bet might be to try to locate Delitha and her extended Hays/Hayes family SOMEWHERE in the 1850 Census. If you can find her, you will probably find Ardena's parents' names. I could not find Delitha in tthe 1850 Census, nor could I find any Hays/Hayes family living in Benton Co., AR in 1850. They may have arrived from MS shortly before Ardena's birth. Ardena "went missing" in 1870, but "M.C. Duggan," , 42, IRE, her husband to be, was living with his wife "Mary" and family in Sulphur Spring, Polk Co., AR. And, as you probably already know, in 1880 "Aradena and Michael Duggan," his children and theirs, are in Ozark, Polk Co., AR. Good luck, Barbara Hays Cook, Sacramento, CA

Her family was supposedly killed in a tornado in AR. At least one sibling survived and married a William Bryant. Ardena was supposedly born in Benton co, AR in Feb 1852. She married my grandfather Charles Michael Duggan 5/11/1878 in Polk Co, AR. Does this sound like anyone in the family you are researching? She could have lived anywhere in AR or Missouri as my grandfather was a tailor and traveled at times. He had a brother in St Louis so may have gone there.
Memorial Day WWII honor for James Morris Bryant : I would like to honor the memory of, my daddy, James Morris Bryant He was born in 1918 in Mt Vernon , Mobile County AL, raised in Mobile Mobile County and in Evergreen, Conecuh County, Alabama and died July 1988. He lived for many years in Monroeville, Alabama. He is buried in Magnolia Cemetery Evergreen, Conecuh County, Alabama . Daddy spent all of his young years living with his maternal grandparents, James Edward Morris and Ella Quennie Hartley Morris due to the death of his mother Gladys Morris Bryant when he was only 31 days old. His mother died during the flu epidemic of 1918-1919. After his grandparents both died he made his home with his aunt James Edward Morris ( aunt Eddie) and uncle Seaborn J. Brundage in Evergreen, Alabama. Daddy fought in WWII with the U S Army. He slept in the fox holes and rode with the Red Ball Express as a radio operator, he experienced the front line of many campaigns and battles. He followed George Patton and felt it was his duty to fight for the protection of the United States of America, land that he loved. He returned to the USA and mustered out of the service in Texas where his only sister, Ethel Elizabeth Bryant Wilson lived. She had been reared by her father Joshua Bryant Jr. until his death in July 1926, after his death she lived with her paternal grandparents Josh and Elizabeth Hays Bryant in Mt Vernon , Alabama.. My daddy loved his country and stood by the train tracks as the trains carried young men to the Korean War and cried because he wanted to go with the "kids" as he called them when the Korean war was taking the young men to battle. He cried and said "They are just kids, I need to go to help them".....but he stayed to be with my mother, me and my younger brother because we needed his too. He was honored with the United States Flag draping his coffin when he died and was buried in July 1988 in Magnolia Cemetery Evergreen Alabama. James Morris Bryant was my hero and loving daddy, he served his country for 9 years in the US Army. Memorial day honors all that served in the many wars..Bless them and the courage it took to fight for what they believed in. God Bless the USA and all the Service men that honor us with their pride and trust and their brave courage to protect us. I love you daddy.

Got this from another listing, thought I would pass it along. Terry ~~~~~~ Most of you probably already know about this petition for funding for the National Archives and NHPRC. As part of the effort to continue to express to Congress the interest in restoration of funding for NHPRC [National Historical Publications and Records Commission, which is part of the National Archives and Records Administration], the Council of State Historical Records Coordinators (COSHRC) has created an online petition. Please consider signing this petition, and please forward it to any listservs, email groups, or organizations and people you feel would be interested in helping with this effort. It is a quick and easy way for many people to assist. The petition will be forwarded to the House Appropriations Committee and Subcommittee on Treasury, Transportation, HUD and the Judiciary in late May. The petition can be accessed at: <www.savearchives.org> and click on the "petition" button. For more information on NHPRC, see <http://www.archives.gov/grants/about_nhprc/about_nhprc.html>.
