I have found him entering America from Toronto, en route for Detroit, Michigan and thence to Santa Cruz, Californoia where the Norris and Rowe circus had their winter HQ. Norris and Rowe Circus went bankrupt in 1910, and was was sold on auction to Ben Wallace and William P. Hall. They were based in Peru, Indiana. He travelled from St. John on the SS Parisian, arriving in Detriot on 9.9.1909 at D & W ferry. He was desribed as a labourer with $4 yet paid his own passage. His father had just died so his next of kin was given as his mother,Elizabeth, who was now living in Brentwood, where she and her husband are buried. A note in the margin says he "Debarred". The card with his entry details says that he was rejected as he was a convict, but he had a right of appeal. Having come from a wealthy medical family I wonder what his crime was. This has never been discussed in our family. He was 5' 8 ½" tall, with light brown hair, blue eyes and NO distinguishing features! I have searched the American censuses but do not think he was mentioned. There was only 1 very doubtful possibility. He is not buried in the family grave in Essex, UK, either, nor in his brother's family grave. He has just disappeared! If he was part of the circus this could have been a reason for not being registered, unless he died before the 1910 census. I do not know how to find out about deaths in America.
