He was a Glazier and was 48 years old when he died on 14 October 1897 in Somerset, Cape, South Africa, leaving a wife, Jane Hayden, nee Sayer. Their children included: John Henry, Mary Bertha Elizabeth, Alfred James, Enod Caroline Harriet, Ely Charles and Kate Johnson. He was born about 1849 if I subtract 48 years from 1897. The name Alfred seems to have been passed down through the generations, as I have traced 3 generations with Alfred in them. My other lines include: WEBSTER, HAYDEN, HAWTHORN(E), RUSSELL, TURVEY, TAYLOR, BOWES-TAYLOR, RABE, GUNTHER, LOCK, NEIL, CHATTERSON, REINDERS, RABBETS. Regards Jackie

    3. Jason--- Just had to let you know you are not alone in your dead end! My brother and I are both in our 40's and the last in our direct Hayden line. I learned in the last year that my gg-grandfather was raised by his mother and her parents, taking on the mother's maiden name as his surname. So, the male Haydens I did trace, and my Hayden relatives of today would have had a different last name had things gone "normally"----so my brother's dna wouldn't do any good, either. 3. Hi Lorna, It is fairly likely that your Wiltshire line are a branch of the large Devon lot, who by the early 1700's they were starting to spread into other counties. After people recovered from the plague 1660's and survivors starting to have children from about 1675, the population slowly started to climb again. It is from this reduced population that everyone else is descended today; many lines had died out. The Black Death in the 1300's killed off many lines. Perhaps 30% of the population. Look at the population figures of England you see these big setbacks; so a fairly small percentage of lines say existing 1000 years ago have survived down to this day. If we were able to trace all our ancestors back just 500 years we would many common lines. Hi All, I have been searching for 20 years now for my HAYDON line. Maybe, just maybe someone who knows of them will read this. John Hayden(Haddon on marriage record) was born about 1780. According to the family he was from Scotland. I am inclined to trust this, as EVERYTHING, every little detail that was passed down by John's grandson, Noah HAYDON, has been proven to be correct. In 1809, in St Mary's County, MD, John married Elizabeth CORY. Elizabeth was the daughter of David CORY and was from Lunenburg County, Virginia. They moved back to Virginia, then to Woodford County, Kentucky, then briefly to somewhere in Illinois, and then were in Missouri by 1830. They were in Shelby County, Missouri, in 1850, and I have not been able to find either of them after that. No wills or estates, no deed transfers, or land sales, urghh. I have tracked almost 1000 descendants of them, but can not find anything beyond John. I have searched the Maryland Catholics, and even though the immigration pattern matches, can find no connection to them. Noah Haydon said the following about his grandparents: Grandpa Haydon was a ship captain from Scotland. When he married grandma, he father disowned her, because he said she was marrying below her. Her father, Captain Corey was a preacher. David CORY had been a captain in a militia. He was also a preacher, and from what I have found, all of his other daughters received land from him except for Elizabeth. Please, if anyone can help, it would be quite appreciated. 3. Jason, As you probably know, the St Mary's County, MD, Haydens (or alternate spellings) descend usually from Francis Heydon who emigrated from England. The Y-chromosome DNA of Francis' line has been well documented. Have you considered getting tested to see if you might connect? Steve Hayden -----Original Message----- From: hayden-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:hayden-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jason Haydon Sent: Sunday, September 09, 2007 4:07 AM To: hayden@rootsweb.com Subject: [HAYDEN] Desperation... Thanks, Jason Haydon children of John and Elizabeth: 2 F i. Emily Ann HAYDON-11477 was born on 1 May 1811 in Versailles, Woodford County, Kentucky. 3. I too have not been able to make a connection to my Haydens. They came from Wiltshire, Salisbury area in the 1700s, moved to Bath in Somerset, and then to High Wycombe in Bucks and I have been able to trace just one line, mine, but cannot find George Evelyn Hayden who went to America about 1910. He does not appear in any census. Lorna nee Hayden, living in England. Best wishes, Lorna --------------------------------- For ideas on reducing your carbon footprint visit Yahoo!
