    3. Estelle, There are a number of references which can be used with some confidence in their accuracy. The Mayflower Society has accepted Genealogical History of Our Ancestors by Wm. Rutherford as a source of William and Lydia Kierstede Hayden's children. The following is a list of the children from Volume 1 page 361: John b. 26 Oct 1749; d. 24 July 1836; Stephen, baptised 31 Oct 1756; d. 1836; Enoch, b. 27 March 1755; d. 16 July 1843; Noah, b. 27 March 1755; Hosea, baptised 16 Oct. 1757; Pamela; Percina; Webb; Lott; Charlotte, b. 30 January 1765; William Belemus, b. 15 March 1766; d. 11 June 1834. Another source is Capon Valley - It's Pioneers and Descendants by Maud Pugh. She lists William's children on page 204. Noah's daughters by his first wife are listed but not the seven Maud attributes to the second wife. The children listed for William Belemus appear to be accurate though this is not my line and I have not researched them. My wife is a descendant of Webb Hayden and so I have concentrated my efforts on documenting him and his family. 3. Hi, My previous message, quoted below was intended privately to the sender, however I don't mind that it went to everyone. I setup the new Hayden Family Genealogy Database at: www.hayden.org/genealogy and invite all to submit your Hayden names to be added to the database. I will mine some names from recent posts but would appreciate some of the longer lists to be sent by GEDCOM file. I got the database started using an extract from my own database. Of course it contains some of the "accepted" theories and conventions we know are not necessarily correct and certainly are not proven. Notes to that effect need to be added to more accurately show the status of the links. I am depending on our entire group to aid in getting these things straightened out. As I mentioned before, I would like to present all the theories In a somewhat orderly way so that we can all participate in the sorting process. Of course I definitely invite comments to be added to the site. I may not have everything setup correctly yet, but you should be able to navigate around the site and find the methods to make comments. If you register, you will be given an area to keep your own notes and contributions. While I have been using the PHPGEDView program for a while at my www.edwardhayden.com site for my personal family, I have not used it as a collaborative project before, so I will be learning about this with you. I hope this aids in our research efforts so I am looking forward to your participation. Thanks for your interest in this project. Edward Hayden P.S. I expect to receive the results of my DNA test in just a few weeks so I am anxiously waiting for them. -----Original Message----- From: hayden-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:hayden-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Edward Hayden Sent: Tuesday, February 27, 2007 4:42 PM To: hayden@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [HAYDEN] John Hayden 1630 sailed on the "Mary andJohn"fromEngland Hi, I think I am going to install a database on my site strictly for all Hayden ancestors and include DNA information as well as notes and innput from all Hayden researchers. 3. Hi all, Further to my last message, I have a DNA I found while looking for the origins of de Heydon as Normans and possibly descended from William de Cardon [born about 1050] The modern Cardon DNA is R1b and in the first 10 numbers is identical to the Haydon DNA ref H005, and H004 is very close. At a quick glance H005 and H004 seem most likely to be descended from de Heydon, who must have been Norman by his position in society in the 1200's. A pity my DNA is no good, being I1a it seems likely that my male line came to England about 1400 years ago as Saxon invaders. Comments please, Regards Tony Hayden Burgess

    3. Hi all, I have been watching these recent posts. As we have disproved the three Hayden "brothers", and cant find any likely cousins during the 1630's the DNA results are now giving major problems for some lines. Obviously one of them seems to have been a descendant of Thomas de Heydon, but are we looking at a man who travelled on the same ship, perhaps he had no family and "attached" himself to the real Haydon for various reasons? He then used the Haydon name when he got to America, as only one Haydon appears to be listed on the ship [I don't think there is a full list of names?] Irish Haydons had changed the spelling of there original name, for a number of reasons; and Irish DNA will be very different from the Norman; by a few thousand years. We also have the possibility of other Haydons changing their name, orphans, child of a Haydon wife but not a Haydon father. [It has happened] etc. etc. So a true Haydon of Devon DNA will not have changed much in this time frame. And not very much from a Norman. As far as I know, no one has yet studied to find the major DNA groups of say the Normans, ancient Irish [6,000 years ago out of Spain] etc. etc; because this sort of thing would be very useful. 3. Kathie, I am Steve Hayden and I am the volunteer administrator of the Hayden DNA Project. The DNA that is tested in the Project is a very small piece of the Y-chromosome. Since only males have a Y-chromosome, it is passed from father to son and is, hence, useful in tracing male lines. So, test candidates for the Hayden Family DNA Project need to be males with the surname of Hayden or one of the alternate spellings such Heydon, Hyden or Haden. The Project has a web site at http://rhhandson.com/hayden_dna.html. There is also a link ant Edward Hayden's excellent site at http://www.hayden.org/. It is great to see the burst of activity on this list. Tony Burgess correctly identifies several reasons why it can be difficult to connect to Hayden lines even with DNA results. There are just a lot of Hayden lines out there! One of the main objectives of the DNA Project is to connect to our English cousins. A fund has been established thanks to a Hayden researcher to help finance testing of English Haydens. Now we just need some volunteers! Those Haydens who are of the line of John of MA are fortunate to have a rare, distinctive Y-chromosome pattern. So, it is relatively easy to see if you are connected to that line using DNA data. The patterns in the other lines are not so distinctive and, by and large, most lines appear to be of Norman origin. George, who in an earlier post expressed his frustration at any lack of connection, appears to be of Viking origin. As the Project grows, the chance of George and other, to date, unconnected lines will connect also increases. James married Christina Haes(?) in 1772 and they had 11 children: George, Margaret, Elizabeth, Jacob, Catherine, James, Alexander, Ann, William, Maria and Frederick. 2. I very much agree with Don, as I am a direct descendant of Noah Hayden, Noah Gilpin Hayden , and those children listed under Noah Gilpin Hayden and his second wife are NOT correct at all. There is in fact some disagreement in which children of Noah Hayden and both his wives go with which wife?? But as Don stated, those are the children of Noah Haydens father William and Lydia.........Noah's siblings, not his children. 2. Tony I know just what you mean. I have been, on and off looking for my family since 1977. Two or three years ago I found a cousin in Ohio that was doing look-ups and we have been looking every since. I know that Hayden's have to submit to the DNA to be connected, but with as many that has submitted I just can't believe I am not matching SOMEONE out there. On the Hayden DNA Project, I am the very last one that is ungrouped. AS far back as we can go for sure is with George Washington Hayden, born PA in 1821. He is my GG Grandfather. From him forward I can go right to me. But from him back, can not find his father. My Uncle that has been doing this for many years said that his father was Richard that married a Catharine Quickie in Bath VA. Around 1899. There are 3 George Washington Hayden's so we call them GW1, GW2,GW3. Gw3 was my father's father. As for GW1's brother's I think I know them but again can not prove it or those the father and mother is. Some say that GW1 was born in Ohio, but on GW2's death certif.. it says GW1 was born in PA. GW1 was married to a Selina also spelled Celina Mitchell. We did find were they are buried, in Ohio but nothing else. Maybe he slipped thought the cracks too. 2. I have a George Hayden/Headen/Heydon line, Loudon Co., Virginia, Caswell Co. NC, Clark Co, KY. I've given up one finding the immigrant. There seems to have been three generations of George Hayden/ Headen in Virginia from a birth record of son George to George, St. Stephen's Parish, VA 1709, including a deed in Loudoun,1751, George Headen, Sr., Planter of Virginia to sons William and George. The son George was listed as George Headen, Sr. 1770s implying his father had died or possibly moved south when William did. Confusing, isn't it. The third George moved to Clark Co. KY 1801 and died there 1807. He married Jane in Virginia, thought to be Jane Morris. They were my 4th great grandparents. Their son James moved to Caswell Co, NC 1800. He died there 1840, and most of the family moved to Polk Co. Missouri.
