Of all the activity on this list lately one would think they could find a glimmer of hope in finding their roots in this line we call the Haydens. I have found him entering America from Toronto, en route for Detroit, Michigan and thence to Santa Cruz, Californoia where the Norris and Rowe circus had their winter HQ. Norris and Rowe Circus went bankrupt in 1910, and was was sold on auction to Ben Wallace and William P. Hall. They were based in Peru, Indiana. He travelled from St. John on the SS Parisian, arriving in Detriot on 9.9.1909 at D & W ferry. He was desribed as a labourer with $4 yet paid his own passage. His father had just died so his next of kin was given as his mother,Elizabeth, who was now living in Brentwood, where she and her husband are buried. A note in the margin says he "Debarred". The card with his entry details says that he was rejected as he was a convict, but he had a right of appeal. Having come from a wealthy medical family I wonder what his crime was. This has never been discussed in our family. He was 5' 8 ½" tall, with light brown hair, blue eyes and NO distinguishing features! I have searched the American censuses but do not think he was mentioned. There was only 1 very doubtful possibility. He is not buried in the family grave in Essex, UK, either, nor in his brother's family grave. He has just disappeared! If he was part of the circus this could have been a reason for not being registered, unless he died before the 1910 census. I do not know how to find out about deaths in America. I have lurked for years too. My Haydens came from Wiltshire, UK in the 17th century, moved to Bath then Buckinghamshire. Finally to Brentwood in Essex. I had traced them all in the 19th century, apart from one, George Evelyn Hayden born 1879 in High Wycombe, Bucks. I have just discovered that he went to America in 1909 to work for a circus. Then the trail went cold. Is anyone related to him? Lorna nee Hayden Best wishes, Lorna --------------------------------- Yahoo! Answers - Got a question? Someone out there knows the answer. Hi Tom and all, I am interested in your 1000 year old British Isles, are they Hayden? Names would be interesting also. Jane, When I hit the brick wall as you have I got the DNA test. Best $200 I ever spent. I'm currently in 1 Hayden surname project (and connected with kin)+ am in both the British Isle and Ireland geographical projects which have netted me some genetic cousins (most are pre-surname vintage, e.g. 1000 years back). Very interesting to finally break thru the wall. Good luck, Tom --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check outnew cars at Yahoo! Autos.
You probably already know this - but be sure to look for Haden. My Hayden family appears to have used (or others used) both spellings until the late 1800s when they settled on Hayden. My John Haden appeared in Wayne County, KY ca 1800. He appears to have been related to a Bartholomew Haden who also lived there and they both appear to be sons of Isaiah Haden from Hanover County, VA. I have very little information on this family. Hello all, The note from Goeff and Lauren's reply show a great renewal on this list. I also figured that I'd re-post my lineage to see if any newcomers might find a relationship connection. It's also an interesting coincidence that Doug had a connection in East Hartford. My family lived there as well. My fathers father was Richard Hayden (b. 1877) He had a brother James and possibley a sister Elizabeth. There was alsoa recollection ( by my aunt) that there was an aunt Mary and an aunt Margarite ( Margaret or Mary perhaps?). My father was born in New York in 1916. My aunt ( his sister) remembers these aunts coming down for his funeral. She was only six at the time, so her memory is pretty faded ( she's 85 now ). According to my Aunt, her father moved to N.Y. from Rhode Island. I don't know when. My grandfather came over from Roscommon in the late part of the first decade of the 1900's. His father died in a workhouse there. My grandmother was a Haren - from Co. Claire. I know that her relatives were from the Flatbush area in Brooklyn. Anyway - just some basics to see if it rings any bells. Thanks, Terry Hayden

Hello everyone, I have probably posted on this list in the past, but after all the genealogy research I've done, it gets hard to remember where I've seeked information from! I'm a Hayden by birth, Colvin is my married name. My cousin and I have traced us as far back as an Andrew Hayden, born 1828 in Owen County, KY and died 1911 in Edgerton, Platte Co., MO. He was married to Sarah Elizabeth Callaway. We believe, and I say believe because I don't have my notes in front of me to know for sure if I have any documentation to prove it.. that his father is John G. Hayden married to Mary Ann "Polly" Baker. I searched at Hayden.org and don't find my family there. I have talked to other Haydens {some of who might be on this list} and tried to find ancestors behind this line and I've had no luck. So, I'm trying again. I'ts very frustrating because I can find many other lines much farther back. I am a Hayden and can't find my Haydens back more than several generations! If anyone has any information on this family I'd very much appreciate it! I had basically given up for now, but now that the list has been active it reminded me I still need more information. John G. Hayden, if I'm correct that he's Andrew's father, was born at an unknown date and place and died about 1843 in Monroe County, MO? If this is correct, I'd guess that he was also born in KY. His son Andrew was born in KY and John G.'s wife was born in KY. Thanks, Jane Colvin ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Jane, I share your frustration. I can't find my Hayden's anywhere. Hi again, If they are the NE branch, you may still find them in the searchable database: ww.hayden.org This is an outstanding site. Tom --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check outnew cars at Yahoo! Autos.
Thanks Tom. My Haydens ended up in Essex CT. Tom and Helen <donegalkidz@yahoo.com> wrote: Hi Laura, No Ira Hayden shows up in my info. A huge chunk of Haydens left MD for Ohio, and my branch ended up in Chambersburg, Franklin Co., Pa. If he shows up I will certainly let you know. Good luck! BTW, I got my DNA tested and it has really opened things up where I had dead ends before! Regards, Tom --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell?
