    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: dwaynerh Surnames: Haught Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.haught/149.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This is a very old post so I am guessing that you most likely have found the information for which you are looking. William H. Haught was my great grandfather. He was married to Ruth (Shuman or Sherman) both were born in and married in WV and their first two children Alexander Lee and Mary Belle were born there also. The family moved to Washington County Pennsylvania specifically North Strabane Township and had the following aditional children: Albert, Collin, Tillie, Fanny, Anna Mae, and Thomas Raymond who they called Ray. Thomas Ray was my great uncle who I did not know though I became friends with his wife Johanna and daughter Betty Lou after his death in 1970. They lived on a small farm right off of Route 19 in Washington County between the towns of Meadowlands and Washington. That was 40 years ago so I have no doubt that Johanna is dead and her daughter Betty Lou could be also. Ray's older brother Albert's family lived on a small farm adjacent to Ray's although A! lbert had been dead a number of years when I knew them. Thomas Ray and Johanna had several children and grandchildren who must still live in the area though I don't know any of their names. I was always interested in genealogy and Johanna had lots of information about the family and its history. Thomas Ray's two older sisters Tillie and Anna Mae were still very much alive at the time, very interesting and living in Pittsburgh on one of the Mexican War Streets. I was in college in Pittsburgh at the time and I used to stop in and see them often. Thomas Ray's obituary was most likely in the Washington Observer (Washington, PA's newspaper) or the Canonsburg Daily Notes (Canaonsburg PA's paper). If you have any questions or would like additional information on the family please just drop me an email at dwaynerh52@msn.com Good luck, Dwayne Haught Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: dwaynerh Surnames: Haught Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.haught/348.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I think that I actually knew the Jacob Haught you are talking about. Peter Haught, the police chief from Canonsburg was the older brother of my great grandfather William Haught. Peter Haught was well known in Canonsburg and was actually the last known living Civil War Union Soldier residing in Canonsburg when he died. There was a large obituary article written on Peter when he died in the the Canonsburg paper which was named the Canonsburg Daily Notes. I'm not sure if it is included in the Ancestry.com newspaper collection or not but I think the paper is available on microfilm for interlibrary loan incase you would like to check for the obituary. He served about six months in the Union army right near the end of the war in 1865. The Jacob Haught you are talking about was my dad's second cousin and my third cousin but because of his age when we were young we called him Uncle Jake. I knew him in the mid 1950s and very early 1960s. At that time he was a widower a! nd lived in Mt. Pleasant Township in Washington County, Pennsylvania. He lived near/between a farm community named Hickory and a mining village called Westland in Western Pennsylvania. He lived on about 5-10 acres of land with a nice white house and beautiful apple orchard. I remember going there as a small boy and picking apples with my dad. I think you might be able to find historical records for the property he owned in either Hickory (which is the Mt. Pleasant Twp seat or at the court house in Washington, Pa). As a young boy I remember him as being very nice, he was not big about 5' 8", trim and with a full head of white hair. He either died or went someplace else to live in the early 1960s as I do not remember him after that. Another family bought the house as I went to school with their son Gary Allen and our school bus stopped at Uncle Jakes old house to pick Gary up every day. I'm thinking that the Canonsburg Daily Notes may have an obituary on Uncle Jake al! so. I hope this has been helpful. If I find out any more info I will send it on to you. I am wondering how you might be related to Uncle Jake so if you have the time drop me a line and let me know. If you have any more specific questions feel free to ask them as I am going back to that area in PA in July and can do some digging around and you can always email me at dwaynerh52@msn.com Good luck, Dwayne Haught Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: dwaynerh Surnames: Haught Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.haught/352.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This is interesting to me. My dad's name was John Haught and he was in the army during the late 30s and early 40s. He was stationed in Hawaii in the late 30s and in the Pacific during the war. He was definitely in the army though and not the navy and he was from western Pennsylvania. Do you what state the John Haught you are looking for is from? We are most likely related to the Haught you are looking for as the name is unique.
