"Shorty" Hatcher, age 76, of Edison, died unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, Sept. 24, 2008, at the Morrow County Hospital Extended Care Facility following a brief illness. He was born on July 10, 1932, in Marion County, the son of the late Harvey H. and Mary Evelyn (Keener) Hatcher. Harvey was raised in a tightly knit family and graduated from the Iberia High School in the Class of 1951. Shortly following graduation, Harvey began working at the H.P.M. Corporation in Mount Gilead, where he was affectionately given the nickname "Shorty." After 43 years of dedication to H.P.M., he retired as a tool grinder in 1994. He was a member of the Machinist Union. A man of deep faith, Harvey would devotedly read his Bible every morning. Harvey also enjoyed attending Edison United Methodist Church and was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Marion. A handyman, Harvey could fix almost anything and most knew of his ability to even fix broken television sets. Having a love for television, Harvey enjoyed rooting for all Ohio college and professional sports teams and he loved watching old movies. With "a kind word for everything," Harvey will be remembered for his polite and quiet nature. Harvey will be missed by his two brothers, Robert (Terra) Hatcher of Galion and Bradley Hatcher of Missouri; one sister, Evelyn (Bernard) Kress of Centerburg; one sister-in-law, Joyce Hatcher of Galion; 12 nieces and nephews, Michael, Debra, Mary, Daniel, Scott, Teresa, Tina, Bambi, Doug, Dawn, Curt and Jane; five stepchildren, Phil, Daniel, Jackie and Eddie Shockley and Debbie Goodren; and numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. Main St., Mount Gilead, where services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, with Pastor Don Lockwood officiating.
