To Dave and all our cousins, Any records from the early days of DAR are suspect. They are not acceptable evidence of proof of service/lineage within the SAR if dated prior to some 20 years ago. HATCHER website: http://hatcherfamilyassn.com HALL DNA project: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nhatcher/hall/HDNAtest.htm "If you can't stand the skeletons, stay out of the closet" - Val D Greenwood I will confirm Jim's statement on DAR accuracy. The DAR is working aggressively to cull out DAR applications that they have discovered fall far short of being proven. They are flagging these "suspect" patriots and now require new applicants to re-prove their entire line AND the service of their patriot. I can give one example of a "patriot" who is on this list - Vincent Allen Tharpe of GA. Many people have tagged on to the original application for him but I'm aware that at least one new applicant has recently been told she must also provide proof of his service. She came to me looking for help (which I couldn't give her). >From what I understand, it appears that for a period of several decades, the DAR was accepting applications based less on your evidence but more on "who" you were in society. Mrs Got Rocks was a shoo-in for membership and a fauncy piece of paper to hang on her wall. This situation has been a very unpleasant black eye for the DAR but to their credit, they are making a strong effort to rectify this. Nel
