    3. HATCHER website: http://hatcherfamilyassn.com HALL DNA project: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nhatcher/hall/HDNAtest.htm "If you can't stand the skeletons, stay out of the closet" - Val D Greenwood Okey-doke! I've added a bunch of new stuff to Wm/Ann VS and Nick's pages based on Ed's research. First, he sent me the original of the 1728 Hatcher/Thatcher deed that seems to have created so much confusion with the names. And I could see when comparing the document to the transcription that was on our site that there were a few very serious transcribing problems with the names.. What I found was that the deed was reffed in the left margin as Wm HATCHER and there were about a dozen refs to his name within the deed itself. Only ONCE was his name spelled as THATCHER and that was about two lines down from the first ref to Joseph THATCHER. It is my opinion that the recording clerk simply had a brain burp and forgot, after writing Joseph Thatcher's name, that Wm was a Hatcher, not a Thatcher. With these name similarities, this has to be one of the easiest mistakes to make. In 1727 Nick was a witness against Richard Hyden who was charged with running an illegal Tippling House (that apparently also offered "entertainment") It would be my guess that Nick was given the opportunity, as a "patron", to get a pass by being a witness against Hyden or be charged with an RUI (that's riding while intoxicated :-) I wonder if perhaps Rebecca had some good reasons for leaving Nick, hmmm! We also now know that Wm in 1730 was arrested, along with a "buddy", John Browne, on an assault charge and pled guilty. I've also added Sarah "Hatcher" of HunterdonCo to the Unc file but I have a strong suspicion she may actually be a Thatcher. There are boo-coo Thatchers in that county but nary a Hatcher. The only possibility I can come up with is that Sarah, who was born before 1766 and probably much earlier, could be the widow Hatcher (she was either single or widowed in 1786) and had moved back to the county where she was born or had family. Am still waiting for the remaining NJ recs from the Archives and also expecting to receive some research from SC.......... Good job, Ed! Nel
