Eavis 90, North Sydney It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ellen Jane Eavis, 90, resident of Sunrise Drive, George's River, on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Ramea, N.L., she was a daughter of the late Timothy and Suzanna (Sibley) Hatcher and she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney. She is survived by three daughters, Lana (Cordell) Brown, George's River, Karen (Eugene) Benac, North Sydney, Lucille (Skip) Colwell, Dartmouth; four sons, Clayton (Joan) Eavis, Oshawa, Glen (Noreen) Eavis, Chesley Jr. (Jean) Eavis, both of North Sydney, Edwin (Judy) Eavis, Newmarket, Ont. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Chesley Eavis, an infant son, Wayne Eavis, sisters, Jessie (Dominic) Augustus, Carrie (Bill) Keeping, Florence (Wallace) Kendall, Olive (George) Payne, brothers, Joe (Violet) Hatcher, George (Olive) Hatcher, Clem (Melita) Hatcher and Russell Hatcher. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday at St. Matthew Wesley United Church with Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Reception following burial at church hall. Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Nova Scotia. Online condolences may be sent to info@wjdooley.com.
