Clarence Gilbert Lilly, 78, of Beckley, passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Bowers Hospice House in Cranberry, W.Va., following a long illness. Born Nov. 25, 1929, at Dunns, W.Va., he was the son of the late Clarence Lilly and Icy "Hatcher" Lilly. Mr. Lilly had retired from the Continental Baking Company, known as Wonder Bread, where he served as a truck loader for 39 years. He was also a member of the Cranberry Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Neil Lilly. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 and a half years, Mildred "Rickman" Lilly; two sons, Michael Lilly and his wife, Donna, of Lincoln, Neb., and Mitchell Lilly and his wife, Belinda, of Sparta, Tenn.; three daughters, Kathleen Penny of Taylor, Mich., Barbara Moore of Ravenna, Ohio, and Peggy Zlatkin of Sterling Heights, Mich.; a brother, Luther Randolph Lilly of Beckley; and a sister, Beulah Rose Moye of Beckley; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Service for Mr. Lilly will be 2 p.m. today at Cranberry Baptist Church with Pastor Roger Pauley officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends called 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, and may call one hour prior to the service today at the church. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
