Carey Agnes Hazel Carey, daughter of Fred C. and Mary Alice Hilton Hatcher was born January 29, 1897 at Burlington, Kansas and passed away in San Antonio, Texas on February 15, 1985 at the age of 88 years and 16 days. When a young girl, Agnes moved with her family to Graham County where she lived most of her life. She attended the Morland rural grade school. Agnes was married to Clifford O. Workman on November 8, 1916. To this union was born one son, Delmar. She enjoyed her life on the farm, was a good homemaker, wife, mother, and devoted grandmother. She enjoyed her many friends and neighbors and was always willing to help those in need. In 1949 she and her husband retired to their home in Lenora, Kansas. There she lost her husband on September 8, 1966. She was married to Fred Carey on January 1, 1968 and they remained in this home until ill health forced her to enter the Dawson Home in Hill City. Survivors include: her husband, Fred of the home; one son and his wife, Delmar and Janice, grandson, Jerry and his wife, Dianna, all of Lenora, Kansas; one brother and his wife Earl and Mildred Hatcher, Phoenix, Arizona; one sister and her husband, Velma and Lawrence Lewis, Houston, Texas; one step-son and his wife, Charles and Reta Carey, one sister-in-law, Gussie Baker, all of Lenora, Kansas; five step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Cliff, brothers, Ivan, Corwin and Victor and five sisters, Ida Cofferty [sic], Edith Jackson, Esther Hutton, Ruth Rutherford and Mary Zodrow. Transcriber's notes: Agnes is buried beside her first husband in the Lenora South Cemetery, Lenora, Norton County, Kansas. Ida's surname was Cafferty.
