Those are all good points, Nel. After I wrote you last I thought I should do a count of the slaves, their ages and etc. to see how things matched up in the two slave schedules, thinking perhaps Uncle and Mr. Virden had a parting of the ways with perhaps a great reduction in the number of slaves ggg uncle had in 1860 as opposed to 1850. He did have about 10 less, is all. I will work on the ages and also realize I need to do some work finding out about Mr. Virden, looking for wills, other land records etc. It really does help to discuss these things with someone. So I will now get busy and see if I can solve this mystery. According to family legend this ggg uncle died before 1865 but we have found no proof yet. Another family legend said one of his brothers died at age 20 but we found him hale and hearty at age 30. So much for old family legends. Thanks for your time and your in-put. Much appreciated. Absolutely! Two (or 3 or 4) heads routine. Discussions of this nature is what I think this board is for. Even if the family in question is not yours, seeing how others think, the records they've checked, the conclusions they draw, can often be helpful to someone else - the "I never thought of that" light bulb going off. "Another family legend said one of his brothers died..." The definition of legend - An UNVERIFIED story handed down from earlier times. They should never be considered as fact until proven. Way too many accept these legends in their entirety, never questioning....even after the acceptance of the legend creates a solid brick wall down the road. Nel
