HATCHER website: http://hatcherfamilyassn.com HALL DNA project: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nhatcher/hall/HDNAtest.htm "If you can't stand the skeletons, stay out of the closet" - Val D Greenwood Cuzins, We now have the results back from a descendant of John, proven son of Wm/Joana of SullivanCo, TN. And it has been very revealing. Some background: Jonathan Hatcher has been believed to be either the youngest son of Wm/Joana or his gson thru John. We have 2 testers (James and Tom) who are cousins with a proven paper trail back to Jonathan. They match closely to each other (to be expected), but they have enough mutations among them to make it difficult to tie them into any particular Hatcher line. They simply did not match to ANY of our Hatcher testers closely enough to make any determinations at all. And then along comes Ken, a descendant of son John! His results have now opened new doors. He matched most closely to BARNETT Hatcher! In reviewing Jonathan's records with Shirley, one small detail now jumped out. Jonathan's obit stated that he had come to TN "with his father's family at age 12-13." Not with his father but with his father's family. And now we knew there could be some real truth to this piece of family history. It had not seemed reliable in the past since we know Wm/Joana had been in TN since as early as 1796. We know Jonathan was born in 1806 so how could Jonathan be a son or grandson of Wm yet not arrive in TN until 1818-1819? Now in looking at Barnett's records, we know he sold his land in BuckinghamCo in 1818 and was in BarrenCo, KY early enough to be counted in the 1820 census, perfectly matching the dates in Jonathan's obit. We also know that Arthur Hatcher of Buckingham, believed to be Barnett's brother, died in 1812, leaving several children with the youngest (a son) being born c1807. With these clues, it would appear that when Barnett came to KY c1819, he first stopped in ScottCo, VA and dropped Jonathan off with his cousin, John. It does appear that John raised Jonathan from this time on for both follow each other in many records and both end up moving to LaurelCo, KY at the same time. Conclusive proof? No. Reasonable theory? I think so. But in ending this msg, I do know that it would be very important to have more tests from descendants of the known sons of Wm/Joana. If you're out there, please do consider testing. Nel
Nice detective work there, lady :)Piece by piece, the puzzle comes together! Hey, I did get that geney job--don't know if they contacted any of my references, but thanks if they did!! It's contract-based, so whenever they get Ohio work, I'll get work. Hasn't happened yet, but I'm looking forward to it. > From: nelhatch@hills.net> To: hatcher@rootsweb.com> Date: Mon, 3 Nov 2008 11:15:05 -0700> Subject: [HATCHER] DNA breakthrough????> > > HATCHER website: http://hatcherfamilyassn.com> HALL DNA project: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nhatcher/hall/HDNAtest.htm> "If you can't stand the skeletons, stay out of the closet" - Val D Greenwood> > Cuzins,> > We now have the results back from a descendant of John, proven son of Wm/Joana of SullivanCo, TN.
