    3. This is all that I got on Thomas Hatcher, just in case you have something that might be of use on the Thomas research? Some of it might be outdated? The first two children of Thomas: Jameston and William, (** see note below) moved to NC/TN prior to 1790, probably just before or in the opening days of the Revolutionary War. Jameston's son John married Eve Morris 6 Jan 1790 in WashingtonCo, NC (now TN). The only other children that can be identified are Robert, John and Thomas, shown as heads of household in the 1790 census of EdgefieldCo, SC. In addition Reuben appears in 1800 and Dempsey in 1810 as heads of household. Although nameless, both Reuben and Dempsey can be identified in Wilmoth Hatcher's household in 1790. In 1800, Dempsey with wife and son, age 7-8, can again be found in Wilmoth's. In 1810 the roles are reversed with Wilmoth now in Dempsey's household, both his wife and son are missing. Since Dempsey doesn't appear on the 1820 census, he may well have been the first of three brothers to move to Georgia. Robert and John disappear after 1790. ----------------------- ** Note: At one point in time, date Unknown, a particular researcher had Jameston, brother of this Thomas, dead in 1757 based on the will of one James Hatcher. It has since been proven that James who died in 1757 was NOT Jameston. It also appears that other researchers, including Mrs D A Lamoreaux, on the assumption that Jameston, brother of Thomas, was dead, have assumed that Jameston and William could only be the sons of Jameston's brother, this Thomas. There are many records in both NC and TN referring to one Jameston Hatcher. These records indicate that they apply to Jameston Hatcher, husband of Sarah Hay, and brother of Thomas. All evidence found at this time indicates William is the son of Jameston. It is my belief that the researcher must proceed with extreme caution in making any assumptions regarding the families of this Thomas Hatcher. --------------------------- >From Jerry Proudfit: He advises there were 6 other Unknown children between Robert and John, and that Reuben was born just after John. Note: I have seen no documentation to prove 6 other children. -------------------- Note: There is considerable controversy as to when Wilmoth was born. Some say 1725, others say 1740. If she was indeed bn c1725, then the birth dates of her children make sense. If she were bn c1740, she cannot be the mother of Robert, assuming his birth date is correct. >From ChesterfieldCo, VA Deed Bk 5, 1764-1768, p 187, by Weisinger: I, Jeffrey Robertson of Chesterfield Co, for good causes, but especially because Mary Condrey, Wilmoth Hatcher, and Frances Moor, parceners and daughters of William Blankenship, dec'd, have with their husbands, acknowledged a deed to convey to Henry Mills, 100 acres, part of a tract granted by patent to said Blankenship, and on a division to said parceners, fell to Wilmoth Hatcher and her husband, Thomas Hatcher, grant to Thomas Hatcher 100 acres, including plantation he lives on. 28 July 1761. Sworn before me the day and date above written Recorded & Examined this 9th of June 1774 Note: This land lies in what is now Sumter National Forest halfway between Whitmire and Shelton and just a few miles south of center. Peters Creek is in current NewberryCo lying just south of the UnionCo border. If Thomas's land lay on the north side of the creek, part or all of it may have been in current UnionCo, SC. ---------------------------------- Just one day after the above deed was written, the following deed appears to show Thomas selling the 250 acres with the exception of the premises, or he is selling the entire property but is arranging to continue living on the premises. molestation eviction or interception of them the said Thomas Hatcher and Wilmoth his wife their exor's Admors or any other person or persons whatsoever claiming or to claim by from or under them & free and clear and freely and clearly & absolutely requitted exonerated and discharged of and from all and all manner of formes & other gifts grants bargains sales uses wills intails --intures powers judgements executions charges and incumbrances whatsoever had made done committed or suffered by the said Thomas Hatcher & Wilmoth his wife or any other person or persons whatsoever lawfully claiming or to claim by from or under them and lastly that the said Thos Hatcher and Wilmoth his wife their heirs & all & every other person or persons lawfully claiming or to claim any estate right title trust or interest of or to the said plantation or tract of two hundred & fifty acres of land & all and singular other the premises herein before mentioned and intended to be hereby granted & released and any part and parcell thereof shall and will from & at all times hereafter at the reasonable request and proper costs & charges in the law of the said Aubrey Noland his heirs and assigns make do acknowledge and execute or cause & procure to be made & done acknowledged and executed all & every such further & other lawfull reasonable act & acts thing & things conveyances & apurances in the law whatsoever for the further better and more perfect & absolute granting conveying & assuring the said plantation or tract of land of two hundred & fifty acres & all and singular other the premises herein before mentioned & intended to be hereby granted and released & every part & parcell thereof with these and every of their appurtenances to and for the us (ink blot) of the said Aubrey Noland his heirs & assigns (ink blot) or them or by his or their council ---- in the law shall be reasonably devised & advised & required In witness whereof we the said Thomas Hatcher and Wilmoth his wife have hereunto interchangeably set their hands & seals the day and year first above written.
