    3. Ok, then that clears some of that up, but with what you stated, and I agree on the Peters Creek location in Newberry/Union as that is what I finely came up with, it begs me to state again: This location is quite a far piece from Elbert Co. GA, not just across the river as was stated several times earlier... William W. HATCHER website: http://hatcherfamilyassn.com HALL DNA project: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nhatcher/hall/HDNAtest.htm "If you can't stand the skeletons, stay out of the closet" - Val D Greenwood W W, We'll start with this msg: You stated "We know EdgefieldCo is the only place Tom/Wilmoth were known to have lived." First, there are a number of Peters creeks in SC per USGS. The one between the Broad and Tyger where Tom/Wilm lived was on the county line of Newberry and Union. It is located halfway between Whitmire and Shelton and a bit south. Don't get too concerned with Berkley. I discovered some years ago how confusing these "districts" could be. And it does not matter if Berkley ceased to exist a year before this grant. I've been told by the experts and discovered it myself that recording clerks would too often record these deeds 2-3-4 yrs later under the old district name and not the new. The key to location is the actual reference points referred to in the deeds. And it was my error to say Tom/Wilm lived in Edgefield. It was only Wilmoth and her 2 sons in 1790 Edgefield living near son, Tom Jr, on Turkey and Stevens creeks. These creeks are now in McCormick (formerly Edgefield) halfway between McCormick and Liberty Hill, close to the Savannah and directly across from LibertyCo, GA (Strom Thurmond Lake). "Or are you referring to the Little River on the GA side that is the boundary for Columbia County GA?" Yes. Looking at today's map, the Little River looks more like it's just part of Strom Thurmond Lake. So you have Tom Jr and Wilm across the river on Turkey creek and you have Col James and Henry/Vick living near the Little River with Wm/Pris just north in ElbertCo. I have no answers why Capt Tom is not in the official records. It is where Wilmoth and the kids all ended up that sets the "location" of this story. As adults, several of these kids were "just across the river" from their mother and other sibs.....all in a nice little circle. Nel
