    3. May not have actually made hard contact. Sounds like he was up in a tree and one of the dogs from the drive had discovered his stand and was barking at him, so he struck down on it to run the dog off and stop it's barking so as not to have his concealment revealed to the game. Could actually have gotten the trigger caught on a twig/small branch when he withdrew the firearm to strike or after striking at the dog. When I first read this some years ago I thought it took him THREE Days to die. The circumstances of his demise I found kind of funny.
