    1. [HATCHER] More cemetery confusion...
    2. Martha Lamkin
    3. Nel: Another example of cemetery confusion: My paternal grandmother's family is buried in a family graveyard on the THOMPSON family homestead. This THOMPSON Family Cemetery contains burials from 1912 to 1988, and is referred to by that name in all legal documents, courthouse records, etc. during that time period. An older section of the same cemetery contains burials from 1834 to 1892, during which time the cemetery was called the BRUMMAL-PENICK Cemetery, and legal documents, etc., during that time period referred to it by that name. Yet another, still older, section, contains a number of unmarked graves plus two legible tombstones, with dates from 1828 to 1865, and the graveyard was called the MOTLEY Family Graveyard during those years and in documents of that time period. I was well along into my research before I did a reading of the cemetery, took photos, and put the puzzle pieces together. The name of the same cemetery had simply changed according to the ownership of the land at the time and the surnames of family members being buried in it at that time.
