Above all in a columb in "Bokes Creek and Rushsylvania, Logan County Ohio Cemetery Book" I did mean 1838, but she still would have conceived almost on her 14th birthday! Elizabeth (EICHELBARGER) HATCHER died more than 40 years before her husband, Abel Thomas. But I would disagree with the premise that 14 was too young. Phoebe was born Feb 1838 and if she were the mother of Christina, she would have been almost 15 at her birth. Keeping in mind that Phoebe was an orphan before 1850, I think it's entirely possible that permission may have been given for her to marry at age 14. It's not at all common but I've seen proof of a few of these "younger than normal" marriages. > > I agree with your details on Phoebe's death but not where she died. She died in CrawfordCo, OH. And I'm wondering if it was assumed that Abel must have had a 1st wife because Phoebe was "too young." If that was the case, I'm still not seeing how Eichelbarger happened to be chosen. > > At this point, I really believe he had only 1 wife - Phoebe - unless someone has more clues to toss out. > > Nel > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

But I'm still confused not seeing Abel and Elizabeth and/or Phoebe listed here. I don't understand why they wouldn't be close to their own children or at least in the same section. Since it's winter in OH, don't know how active the volunteers will be so this could be a long wait....... And, yup! IF Phoebe was his only wife, she would have been just 14 when she conceived. If so, it's also possible it was a shotgun wedding. Thank you! We're making progress but I'm still not 100% convinced :-) Nel

How is it known that Elizabeth was an Eichelberger and not a Jones or Smith? There were no Eichelbergers in Logan in 1840. There was one family in 1850 - Henry and Priscilla, age 26, with kids Adam 10, George 8, Wm 6, Priscilla 3. No Elizabeth. In 1860 this family was gone. Anyone got more on the Eichelbergers? Nel

    3. Nel, The EICHELBERGER's were from Champaign county, Ohio, which borders Logan county on the south. Isaac and James's HATCHER's property was originally in Salem Twp., Champaign county, where their deed is recorded, but when Logan county was created from Champaign county, their property straddled the two county lines. Most of their early descendants lived in Logan county, but the two county courthouses are only about 30 miles apart. Abel Thomas 'Abe' HATCHER, was born in Mt. Tabor, Salem Twp., Champaign county, Ohio. There are Jane and Joan EICHELBERGER's in Champaign county, but I am no longer a member of Ancestry.com.
