He was a veteran of WWII serving as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Sudberry, England and returned home from the war on the Queen Mary. Mr. Hatcher graduated from Sunflower Junior College and received his BS degree from Memphis State and received his masters degree from Ole Miss. He worked in education for 42 years as a coach, history teacher, principal and superintendent in Tippersville, Palmer, Mathiston and New Hope, MS. Mr Hatcher served as Superintendent of Education of Lowndes County for 20 years. He was a member of Mt Zion Baptist Church, Columbus Masonic Lodge #5 F& AM, and was a Shriner. Mr. Hatcher was preceded in death by his wife, Flora A. Hatcher; grandson, Todd Eatman; brothers, Waymon and Jack Hatcher and sisters, Willard Moore and Eulalah Hopper. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ronny and Monty Hatcher of Columbus, MS; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Steve Delk of Columbus, MS; grandchildren, Casey (John) Chism, Jenny (Blake) Carroll and Forrest Hatcher. Pallbearers will be Ted Conn, Jack Conn, Clayton James, Bobby Brandon, Jimmy Forrester and Bill Cole.
