    3. HATCHER website: http://hatcherfamilyassn.com HALL DNA project: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nhatcher/hall/HDNAtest.htm "One of the tragedies of life is the murder of a beautiful theory by a brutal gang of facts" - La Rochefoucauld Cuzins, Here's my latest findings on Martha Cottrell Pattison........... First, I did a search of the LVA land grants [with images] on the name Hacker. I found John Hacker in the 1630s who owned land in CCCo. This is the man who can still be found on some very outdated online trees as John Hatcher, son of Wm the Im. In viewing the doc image, his name was clearly HacKer. More digging found a research paper by professional genealogists who detailed the evidence that John Hacker returned to England where he died sometime around 1650. The next occurence of Hacker in the land grants was not until the mid 1700s and none in NKCo. These grant dbases also have the indexed names of adj. neighbors so whether a man rec'd a grant or not, he would still likely appear somewhere as a neighbor of a grantee. Since Martha married Tom Cottrell in 1709, and with no evidence of Hackers in this time frame, I think we can safely say she was a Hatcher. I made one small discovery on Tom's baptism year. Most people have his baptism as 1690 and believe him to have been a minor when he married. In reviewing the transcriptions on ancestry, it should be noted that these baptisms were recorded in date order. Tom's date was shown as 16-- with next entry as 168-. It was five or six more entries before I found a complete date of 1689. Working back thru the months and adjusting the year as I went, I calced that Tom was baptized in Apr 1687. He was not a minor in 1709 but 22 yrs of age. I've not done it yet but will pull that page of the register and add it to Tom's page. Then I started working on the names found on Cottrell and Pattison deeds from NKCo to Henrico. I could tie none of these names to any of our Hatchers. I worked on names from Henry/Dorothy and Henry/Marg deeds and could not tie any of them back to NKCo. Martha's husband Tom Cottrell died 1718 in NKCo. 2nd husband Alex Patteson died 1726 NKCo. Sometime between 1726-1740, she moved down to Henrico where she purchased land from Jacob Robinson on "south side of Deep Run." That's where I'm at now. I've not figured out yet who Jacob Robinson is AND I can't pinpoint her land on USGS. There are at least 2 Deep Runs in Henrico :-( Nel
