I hesitate to speak up based on my current work schedule to speak up...but I am the director of production for regional (state of minnesota) at twin cities public tv. I have no connection to the show(s). I haven't read all the messages so not sure what's in the works but I think I get the jist. There's a program running now on PBS called Faces of America (still mostly famous people but with a wider range of celebrities its not just famous African Americans) with Henry Louis Gates. Just peeked at their website resources and Ancestr.com not listed. I'm guessing because NBC paid them for exclusivity for their show...also with celebrities. So if you want to approach someone promoting the NBC show you probably stand a better chance of getting attention. The show is focused on celebrities but could the Today show do a bridge to what it means for us regular folk? Or a local NBC news station? Or approach the Gates PBS show (I think you stand a better chance getting attention there). I think there is a "find your story" option on their website...might be a way to connect ata local station the program has given outreach money to. There is very little money in local tv. But you might find someone who loves the wide connections here and helps.. I can help identify the right person to approach for the Gates show if you can resend me what we're looking to accomplish. I can't promise a lot of my time right now but I'll help however I can.
