Here is what I've found......... 1681 - Holmes' map showing land of Richard Thatcher near Dilworth and Paxton. Richard Thatcher was one of the original settlers in 1681-82 of Penn's project. 1689 - Richard Hatcher/Thatcher living in BucksCo near Dilworth and Hayworth. This is the same ref sent by Ray that listed Richard as Hatcher. That's an error and should be Thatcher. 1697 - Richard Thatcher's will probated, sons Bartholomew, Amos, Joseph, 2 daus in care of Wm & Henry Paxton. Witnesses to will were Tom Stackhouse and Israel Taylor who can also be found as neighbors on the original 1681 map. So Richard never moved from his original location near Dilsworth and Paxton and his sons are ID'd in his will. Nel

But we have such limited info on him that it's not even possible to know when he was born. As a bondsman for Mary Hatcher's wedding (1747) to Sands, was he a brother or her father? I do know that in looking at records for families in Bensalem, I find Nicholas a common name in many of them. That leads to the possibility that Nicholas was named for his mother's father. If he had no sons of his own, we would not see that name passed down in the Hatchers. And since it's not possible that Nick could be Wm's father, their relationship would not be direct line so no reason to see Nicholas used in the descendants of Wm. Nel

    3. Rena, should Lucy have died while visiting a child, or because she was being cared for by her child in their home, her death certificate would have been in that state. Have you checked for the locations of each of their children. I had this happen to one of my Barrow Ancestors and it took forever to get a date of death. (Her grave have no dates) It took a long time to track it down. Winnette

    1. [HATCHER] Van Sant's and Hatchers
    2. I would like to thank Paul Hatcher for sending?his information to us. I compared my Van Sant records and most of it was the same except for a few names and dates. I also used Davis' "A Genealogical and Personal History of Buck's County" for much of my information. Another site I used which may be the same source as the CD's that Paul used was the "Van Zandt Family Genealogy" I found on a web site. "The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record" also had quite a bit. I thought it interesting that in that publication, the progenitor of all these Van Zandts was not listed as Stoffel or Christoffel but Stofflesz Hermansz. I would be interested to know if Paul or anyone else has an opinion on this. Also, the name Rakestraw has been mentioned. I have Hannah Rakestraw dau. of Thomas Rakestraw and Mary Mason married to Abraham Haines, another familiar name associated with Hatchers and from Burlington, N.J. Jeremiah Rakestraw married Margaret Borton, Josiah Rakestraw married Ann Borton and Josiah Borton married Lydia Rakestraw. All of the Borton's were siblings. A real family affair! I have Ann Ingledue b. 1719, the first dau. of Blackstone Ingledue and Margaret Palmer. The parents were born in England, the children in Philadelphia. Two of the children, Hannah, who married Jacob Janney (another familiar surname) from Bucks County and Sarah who married John Hatcher both died in Loudoun County VA. There were 2 boys in the Ingledue family, Blackstone Jr. and William. I don't have a death date or place for Blackstone but William died when 2 years old. Some of this information comes from "The Descendants of Thomas and Mary (Ludford) Nichols of Staffordshire, England; compiled by Pauline E.Nichols. The Thomas Balch Library in Leesburg, VA copied this information for me. The marriage of William Hatcher and Ann Van Sant is also listed in the Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey. p. 76, Vol. 14 #4. Hope this information is helpful to someone. I have enjoyed the discussions on the Quaker Hatcher's immensely.

    3. I always wonder if the Hacher should be Hatcher. It is not a name I have ever seen in my area. They appear to always live near a Hatcher family. Winnette

Very common in England, along with Hatchard, which I'm pretty sure is also a variation of Hatcher. Nel
