And there's another important name that pops up in these records - Robert Heaton. Ninety years later we have Robert Heaton and Wm Hatcher as bondsmen for Robert's marriage to Hannah Horner in BurlingtonCo, NJ. Does anyone recognize the Heaton name from your files? If anyone wants a copy of Holmes' 1681 "Wm Penn" map with owners platted, contact me privately. I have marked with a red X those names I've found in various records for Richard Thatcher. And if you can find the Heaton name on the map, please let us know. I couldn't find it but my eyes ain't up to speed yet either. And if anyone recognizes other names, mark them with a different colored X, tell us why they're important and send a copy back to me. Ed is ready for another research trip, this time in BucksCo so we'll see what else he may find. Nel

    1. Re: [HATCHER] Thatchers
    2. I just spent an interesting couple of hours cruising through the Thatcher mailing lists, though I started out to check the DNA. The Thatchers do not seem to be bothered at all by the idea of a Thatcher/Hatcher connection. They mostly ignore it entirely though some of our Hatchers wrote in notes asking questions. There was never much of an answer--they all just go back to researching the Thatchers. They are a little confused by the 2 Richard Thatchers--one in Chester County, PA, with children Jonathan and Jane, and the other in Bucks County with a number of children. They seem to feel the 2 Richards are cousins and from the same area, I believe Uffington, Berkshire, England. Burnis **************Vote for your city's best dining and nightlife. City's Best 2008. 2. So does it say somewhere which line of Thatchers was tested--what I am wondering is if it was descendants of one of the Richards, we just don't know which one, or was it perhaps the sons or grandsons of them. Maybe some of both branches were tested and they all matched each other? Burnis **************Vote for your city's best dining and nightlife. City's Best 2008. HATCHER website: http://hatcherfamilyassn.com HALL DNA project: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nhatcher/hall/HDNAtest.htm "If you can't stand the skeletons, stay out of the closet" - Val D Greenwood Here is the trick with the Thatcher-Hatcher DNA. No, we do not match each other.....BUT! There were 2 Richard Thatchers and I have found them both in the early PA records. We have Richard of BucksCo, sons Joseph, Bart, Amos. We also have Richard of ChesterCo with at least son, Jonathan. We also have plenty of Thatcher theories about Joseph Thatcher becoming Joseph Hatcher (remember the 1726 Wm Hatcher deed). And supposedly it is Joseph Hatcher in the 1724 Tax list. Sooo....who tested for the Thatchers and which Richard do they belong to? Do both Richards match each other? Has anyone tested from Joseph's line? All I can say for sure is that I see no connection at all to Richard of Bucks who was clearly Quaker. I think we're probably in agreement now that our Wm was not Quaker when he arrived but joined c1754. I do not know if Richard of Chester was a Quaker. Ain't this fun?? :-) Nel

    3. As I recall, there was some DNA evidence also. Did the DNA evidence break the link from this same Richard Thatcher and the Quaker Hatcher line? ----- Original Message ----- From: nelhatch Folks, I believe I can prove that Richard Thatcher was not a Hatcher. Here is what I've found......... 1681 - Holmes' map showing land of Richard Thatcher near Dilworth and Paxton. Richard Thatcher was one of the original settlers in 1681-82 of Penn's project. 1689 - Richard Hatcher/Thatcher living in BucksCo near Dilworth and Hayworth. This is the same ref sent by Ray that listed Richard as Hatcher. That's an error and should be Thatcher. 1697 - Richard Thatcher's will probated, sons Bartholomew, Amos, Joseph, 2 daus in care of Wm & Henry Paxton. Witnesses to will were Tom Stackhouse and Israel Taylor who can also be found as neighbors on the original 1681 map. So Richard never moved from his original location near Dilsworth and Paxton and his sons are ID'd in his will. Nel
