    3. Nel, I'm sorry but I don't have more on the Nicholas Hatcher - John Baldwin bond. I found this when I googled "Nicholas Hatcher Bucks PA". I did find that John Baldwin was a prominent Quaker of Bristol Township owning a ferry crossing on Neshaminy Creek. Finding a record of this bond could provide a great deal of information. I was also wondering about the reference to Rebecca the wayward wife of Nicholas Hatcher. It would seem that this Nicholas might just be a son of the Nicholas that is referenced in 1725. It just seems that if this in the wife of the 1725 Nicholas she might be a bit old (this was 1764) to be carrying on in such a manner. That makes me think that perhaps she was the wife of a younger Nicholas (i.e. a son of Nicholas 1725) Gary

    3. HATCHER website: http://hatcherfamilyassn.com HALL DNA project: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nhatcher/hall/HDNAtest.htm "If you can't stand the skeletons, stay out of the closet" - Val D Greenwood The first set of docs tells me that Rachel Hatcher was the mother of Wm Coates Hatcher, bn Burlington, NJ, based on a lawsuit between her and William Stokes. I also believe his brothers were Thomas and John, both bn in NJ based on other records. John is who I believe was the father of Wm Zane Hatcher. These recs mention she moved to Gloucester where I have a Wm in an early tax list - maybe c1765? Need to check that. I have to believe at this point that Rachel was a 2nd wife with her sons bn 1790-1800. My reasoning is that we have Hannah Hatcher bn 1775 who married Wm Stokes (same man in Rachel's lawsuit). The big gap between Hannah and the 3 boys indicates a 1st marriage for Wm OR we have another Hatcher daddy running loose somewhere. This is the Wm I suspect may be the son of Nicholas. Rachel's husband was Wm died c1806 and it is these records I'm still waiting for. A witness was Albert Zane who is still a mystery regarding his family. No info found on him to date. Another rec shows a Sarah Hatcher of GloucesterCo bn bef 1765 (and probably earlier) in a suit for trespass against John Gibbs. No idea if she's single or widowed. Haven't checked the other two docs yet but also have to get Bruce scanning them for me......... Moving right along...........! And I have a lot of catching up to do with all the non-NJ msgs coming in. Nel

HATCHER website: http://hatcherfamilyassn.com HALL DNA project: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nhatcher/hall/HDNAtest.htm "If you can't stand the skeletons, stay out of the closet" - Val D Greenwood And here's the complete article from the newspaper........ Collection: The Pennsylvania Gazette Publication: The Pennsylvania Gazette Date: January 12, 1764 Title: WHEREAS Rebecca, the Wife of the Subscriber, of Middletown, WHEREAS Rebecca, the Wife of the Subscriber, of Middletown, in Bucks County, has misbehaved herself, and run him considerably in Debt; there are therefore to forbid all Persons trusting her on his Account, for he will pay no Debts of her contracting after the Date hereof. NICHOLAS HATCHER . Jan. 6, 1764 Now - the bond record of 1725 would seem to indicate Nick was at least 21 unless one could enter some sort of bond at age 18. I have not been able to put a firm bdate on Nick until now and that does make it possible that when Nick was bondsman for the marriage of Mary Hatcher (Sands), he was most likely her father. And this may be the reason why his name was on the 1760 Tax list but with no assessment - there were often exemptions on these taxes for "senior citizens." I'm also thinking we've GOT to find that 1724 BucksCo Tax list that Wm and Joseph Hatcher appeared on and hope it's not in alpha sequence. But I just noticed something on Wm/Ann's page...... >From Evelyn Avery: "William appears on the 1724 Bensalem, BucksCo, PA tax list as a wheelwright. He receives a Northern Neck Land Grant in what is now LoudounCo, VA in 1744." I think we need to find that land grant and I'm still thinking we have 2 Wms here - father and son. I think the LVA site has these land grants. Nel

    3. Here's an interesting addtion: Runaway Wives: 1730-1779 Category : Society and Culture Published by Anonymous on 2007/7/15 Elopements and Other Miscreant Deeds of Women as Advertised in The Pennsylvania Gazette Such was the title of the article written by Judith A. Meier for the Pennsylvania Genealogy Magazine and, as such, it would be hard not to read further. The article itself is very lengthy and so I'll restrict myself to merely abstracting some of the most interesting information contained within the article. If nothing else, the article gives valuable information regarding the names of the parties involved. Bear in mind, when reading these, that elopement in those days meant leaving one's spouse. 12 Jan 1764 Rebecca, wife of Nicholas Hatcher Middletown, Bucks Co, Misbehavior Keep Looking, Gary
