HATCHER website: http://hatcherfamilyassn.com HALL DNA project: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nhatcher/hall/HDNAtest.htm "If you can't stand the skeletons, stay out of the closet" - Val D Greenwood Good morning, cuzins! Yesterday we rec'd results for our NY Hatcher from England and we now have our 3rd tester matching the Kent, England family. This family came from Kent to NY, OH and WI. And you may not remember Ebenezer Hatcher of GA but his test results are very rare and for over at least 2 yrs has never had a match to anyone, regardless of surname.........until yesterday. This match is quite intriguing since Eben matched to a family out of Scituate, MA going back to the 1500s. Their surname? HATCH! I find this interesting because we have an unc Hatcher family that I've tracked back to MD to a Thomas Hatcher bn bef 1683 whose name in the records is as often Hatch as it is Hatcher. His father may have been a John Hatch bn bef 1634 whose records are consistently spelled Hatch. One descendant, if my research is correct, is a John Hatcher bn c1820 in MD who ended up in KY. So far, I've never had a contact for this family. The results we're receiving lately are opening up more and more possibilities for matches, particularly for those of you with Unc Hatchers. The special sale for $119 on the 37 marker test will continue thru Sept 30th. If you're still vacillating, pondering, considering, procrastinating, don't wait too long! Contact me if you have questions and I'll be happy to work with you. Cheers, Nel
HATCHER website: http://hatcherfamilyassn.com HALL DNA project: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nhatcher/hall/HDNAtest.htm "If you can't stand the skeletons, stay out of the closet" - Val D Greenwood Good morning, Y'all, In case you're wondering why I've been so quiet, I've been very busy working on the family of our newest Brit DNA tester. I now have his family back to a James and Sarah Hatcher of Somerset. I've created a separate file for this family named "English Hatchers from Somerset." What I've done is placed a number of Hatchers on this file with roots in Somerset, not knowing at this point if or how they may connect. Heather, who answered my call (the first of three and thanks to all) for subbers to Ancestry world, helped tremendously by pulling English censi for me as we worked to put this family together. But last nite, while surfing for anything I could find on Somerset records, I discovered a marvelous English research site. http://freereg.rootsweb.com/search/index.htm I'd seen this site many eons ago but they really seem to have made great strides in adding birth, marriage, death records from the parish/church registers for all counties. It is this site that gave me James and Sarah as parents of the Wm Hatcher we are working with. Any of you researching in England MUST check out this site. I suspect I could keep busy for 1/2 year just pulling Hatcher docs off this site. And just to give a few of you a chuckle and perhaps say Hmmmm, this Wm Hatcher, bn c1815, was a master WHEELWRIGHT :-) I know our Brit tester has subbed to our mailing list but will leave it up to him if he wishes to identify himself by name. That goes back to my responsibility as DNA Group Admin to not ID testers by name without their permission. Cheers, Nel

The entry re: James E. Hatcher, wife Anne E., came from an online database: The Alabama Supreme Court on Slaves by Dwayne Cox http://www.lib.auburn.edu/archive/aghy/slaves.htm Sorry I forgot to include this link before. It doesn't mention a county, but it sounds as if that's all straightened out...... Wondered if anyone has access to the Lexus/Nexus law database? I have signed up for a free mini-version, which provides complete transcripts of all US Supreme Court Cases, but for individual states only provides case transcriptions for the last 10 years. Is there a lawyer on the list who can tell me if there is any online access to State Supreme Court Case transcriptions? There are cases in Louisiana and Alabama in the 1800's involving my Cato family that I would like to research. Thanks! Cynthia

Ran across this while searching cases decided in the Alabama Supreme Court, and thought it might be of interest to someone. I didn't search the Hatcher Family site, as I have no idea who this Hatcher belongs to... There may well be some interesting documents in the actual record of this case. Often they included wills and extracts from wills. The Alabama Supreme Court on Slaves. by Dwayne Cox. "In 1812 James E. Hatcher executed a deed of gift for certain slaves to his wife, Anne E. Hatcher. The clerk of the county court recorded the deed. Mrs. Hatcher died in 1844, but left two sons. Following her husband's death, the sons sued his executor, Allen Clifton, to recover damages for conversion of the slaves. The lower court ruled in favor of Clifton because in 1812 recording of such a deed was not among the official duties of the clerk of the court. Furthermore, the original deed did not exist, only a copy. On appeal, Judge Stone agreed. Hatcher v Clifton, 35 Alabama 275 (1859). "
The son James E. Hatcher was the son of James Hatcher of Dallas Co. I donot know why James died but he left the slaves to his wife.According to Nel, he was the descendent of Thomas and Wilmouth/ I still have him listed as a son of Robert Hatcher. Descendants of James E. Hatcher Generation No. 1 1. James E.6 Hatcher (James5, Robert4, Jeremiah3, Benjamin Sr.2, William1) was born 1816, and died in Dallas Co.Alabama. He married Ann E. Unknown 1836 in Dallas Co.Alabama. She was born Abt. 1815 in Dallas Co.Alabama, and died 1844 in Dallas Co. Alabama. Notes for James E. Hatcher: Thomas G. Rainer was the guardian. James E. was born in 1816 so the date of 1812 could not be correct The date was more likely 1842. In 1842 James E. Nel, Thank you very much for the information. I would just love to get my hands on some scans of that bible. What are the origins of the transcription? With my SAR research, I have a copy of a letter from Robert White, Clerk of Adair County Court, Columbia, Kentucky, dated 11 June, 1962 to Mrs. Sherman B. Watson. The letter testifies that Jeremiah Hatcher and Polly Waggener were married on 11 June 1811. The minister was Isaac Hadgen. The record comes from Marriage Book No. 1 Page 27. There is also a 2 page letter from John Paul Grady to Mrs Watson dated 22 November, 1962, referencing a DAR application for Mrs. Pearl Hatcher Morrison. The letter provides "necessary proof" that Jeremiah Hatcher (b.1785) was a son of Nancy "Ann" (Haskins) Hatcher. The proof uses the 1810 and 1820 Federal Censuses, Marriage Records, and the 1815 Tax Roll of Green County to show that Jeremiah must have been Henry's son. Basically, it establishes that, as you say, it would be a stretch to assume this Jeremiah was not the son of Henry. If anyone would like me to post scans of the three pages, drop me a line. If anyone has any other proof of the Jeremiah to Henry relationship, I would definitely be interested. HATCHER website: http://hatcherfamilyassn.com HALL DNA project: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nhatcher/hall/HDNAtest.htm "If you can't stand the skeletons, stay out of the closet" - Val D Greenwood Dan, The bible entries for Henry/Nancy Haskins were entered from a transcript. I do not have copies of the original. The only other evidence we have that Jeremiah/Mary Waggener was Henry's son is his marriage date. The Bible states June 1811 and the Researchers Publication. Adair County, Kentucky records this marriage between Jeremiah and Mary being June 11, 1811 - two different sources matching each other. Jeremiah lived in AdairCo until 1820 when he returned to GreenCo where his father and other family members were living. It would be a stretch to assume this Jeremiah was NOT the son of Henry. Nel
